Will Echoes Of Aincrad Have Character Customization?

The waves are shifting! And for the first time in Sword Art Online gaming history, you will not be reliving the story of Asuna or Kirito. Echoes of Aincrad flips the narrative entirely, letting you build your own character from scratch and drop them straight into Aincrad.

However, if you have been confused about why the demo doesn’t let you touch the character creator and design your character, this guide is just for you!

Can You Customize Your Character in Echoes Of Aincrad?

Yes, Echoes of Aincrad is expected to offer a fully customizable character creation. Once you reach the character creator in the full game, you can expect a fairly deep set of options covering your character’s real-life style of appearance:

  • Body type and build
  • Hairstyles and hair color
  • Facial features, including eye shape and skin color
  • Freckles and moles
  • Armor and gear

In addition to this, you will also get to shape your combat style through weapon choice and skill selection, since the game runs on fast-paced, real-time combat where you can adapt and upgrade your equipment, weapons, and attributes as you progress.

However, there is one important detail worth knowing before you start tweaking those sliders:

Once you finalize your character’s appearance, there is no going back to edit it. So take your time in the creator rather than rushing through it; you wouldn’t want to look like a potato after all!

But Why Isn’t Character Creation In The Demo?

If you have played the demo and wondered why you are stuck with a preset character, you are not alone. Based on official confirmation, character creation is genuinely not available in the demo. Instead, players are locked into a premade character for the entire demo experience. This is because the purpose of the demo is only to give an experience of the gameplay; the full release will offer much more personalization to your character.

If you are still doubtful about this, let me reassure you. According to Bandai Namco’s confirmed FAQ information, the full game begins with the character creator right at the start, prompting you to enter your name and design your avatar before you ever set foot in Aincrad. So the demo intentionally withholds this feature, it is not missing from the full release.

Will There Be Any Voice Options For The Full Game?

As a matter of fact, you will have voice options in Echoes of Aincrad! Once you do reach the character creator, you won’t be stuck with a single voice either. The full version supports 12 different voice types for your customizable character, with voiceovers available in both English and Japanese.

You Won’t Be Doing This Alone

And if you are disappointed about not having multiplayer mode, there is a workaround for this limitation. Character customization does not stop with your own avatar. Your progress also depends on a chosen NPC partner. And the best part is that each partner comes with their own distinct skills and abilities that can be customized as well. As your bond with this partner grows throughout the game, you unlock new skills and increasingly powerful abilities together, adding another layer of personalization beyond just how your character looks.

So, even if you won’t be able to play with other players from the US, UK, or your area, do not worry about the gameplay being a standalone experience.

Well, this sums up everything you need to know about character customization before the game officially launches on 10th July 2026.
