Hytale’s $15,000 Gobliterator Challenge Turns Chapter 1 Into a Hardcore Race

Hytale’s Chapter 1 is about to make the Early Access sandbox RPG a whole lot more dangerous—and potentially a whole lot more profitable for one streamer.

Hytale founder and Game Director Simon Collins-Laflamme has put $15,000 on the line for the first streamer who can defeat the upcoming Gobliterator boss, but there’s a catch: this is absolutely not a normal boss run. The winner has to take down the Gobliterator on Hard difficulty, in Hardcore mode, without armor, potions or glitches, while completing a legitimate solo progression run.

And yes, the entire thing has to be streamed.

Chapter 1 is scheduled to launch on October 12, 2026, bringing Hytale’s first handcrafted dungeon, its first multi-phase boss fight and a major goblin-focused storyline. That makes the Gobliterator one of the biggest new threats arriving with the update—and now it is also the target of a very real $15,000 streamer race.

Hytale’s Gobliterator now has a $15,000 bounty

Simon announced the challenge on X on September 24, shortly after Hytale confirmed the Chapter 1 release date.

His original challenge was straightforward:

“I’ll donate $15,000 to the first streamer who kills the Gobliterator boss in hard mode, no armor, no potion, no glitch, in hardcore mode (you can use iron weapons available in Exploration Mode). It must be streamed so we can watch the VOD; don’t cheat, bro.”

So, no rushing into the boss with a fully stacked character and calling it a day.

The contestant has to survive a much tougher set of conditions. The run must be played in Hardcore mode, the boss must be defeated on Hard difficulty, armor and potions are banned, glitches are forbidden, and the attempt needs to be publicly streamed with a VOD available for verification.

There is one equipment exception: iron weapons available in Exploration Mode are allowed.

That gives players at least some offensive equipment to work with, but the defensive restrictions remain brutal.

And the challenge goes beyond the actual boss arena.

You have to earn your way to the Gobliterator

Simon later clarified that contestants cannot simply spawn themselves into the encounter.

“It must be a full legit run in solo; you can’t just creative-mode your way in there.”

That means the $15,000 challenge begins from the start of the run.

A qualifying contestant must progress through the game solo, without another player helping them reach the dungeon or defeat the boss. Creative Mode also cannot be used as a shortcut to bypass the progression and place the streamer directly in front of the Gobliterator.

That distinction could make the race much more intense than a simple boss-kill competition.

Chapter 1 introduces a new progression structure built around its goblin content. The Forgotten Temple serves as the starting point for the chapter, while the Goblin Breach can generate temporary portals into unstable fragments of Orbis containing goblin-controlled areas and other activities.

So before someone can even think about claiming the $15,000, they have to survive the journey there.

No armor, no potions, no glitches

The restrictions remove two of the easiest ways to make a difficult encounter more manageable.

Armor is banned. Potions are banned. Glitches are banned.

That means contestants cannot rely on traditional defensive protection or consumable buffs to compensate for mistakes.

Iron weapons from Exploration Mode are permitted, however, so the challenge is not completely weaponless. The currently announced rules instead create a very specific setup: players can use the permitted iron weapons, but they have to deal with the boss without armor or potions while playing under Hardcore conditions.

The no-glitch rule is equally important.

The competition is supposed to reward a legitimate completion of Chapter 1’s progression, not whoever discovers an unintended exploit first. Creative Mode is also specifically ruled out as a way to skip directly to the encounter.

That turns the challenge into an endurance test as much as a boss fight.

Failed attempts aren’t necessarily the end

There is some room for streamers who don’t nail the challenge on their first attempt.

Simon has indicated that contestants can start over and make additional attempts. Every new attempt, however, still needs to follow the announced conditions from the beginning.

Hardcore mode makes that restart particularly painful. A mistake can end the run, forcing the streamer to begin again rather than simply respawning and continuing.

That creates a serious strategy question: spend time practicing the new Chapter 1 content first, or immediately attempt a qualifying run and hope nobody else gets there first?

Simon himself highlighted that dilemma:

“It will be interesting to see strategies: risk time in practice, or just go straight for the kill?”

For streamers, that could become one of the most interesting parts of the competition. Practice could provide valuable knowledge about the new dungeon and boss, but every minute spent preparing is also time another contestant can use to make their own attempt.

The Gobliterator is Hytale’s first multi-phase boss

The prize is grabbing attention, but the boss exists because Chapter 1 represents a major step for Hytale.

Hytale’s official July preview described Chapter 1 as the beginning of a more substantial RPG-sandbox progression system. Among its biggest additions are the game’s first handcrafted dungeon and first multi-phase boss fight.

The encounter is powered by Hytale’s Encounter Manager, a system designed to coordinate different boss phases, enemy waves and changes to the arena. Rather than hard-coding individual encounters directly into the engine, the system allows encounters to be created as content.

That makes the Gobliterator more than just another enemy.

It is one of the first major showcases of Hytale’s structured dungeon and boss design.

And the boss isn’t the only threat waiting in Chapter 1.

Hytale’s goblin faction gets a serious expansion

Chapter 1 is heavily centered around Hytale’s goblins, with the update introducing different goblin types with their own roles and personalities.

Not every goblin is automatically hostile, either. Hytale’s official preview has shown that some can be friendly, including a goblin who operates a shop.

The combat-focused goblins being introduced or reworked for Chapter 1 include:

  • Goblin Scrapper
  • Goblin Miner
  • Goblin Guardian
  • Goblin Lobber
  • Goblin Burner
  • Goblin Feastmaster

Each contributes to the wider combat ecosystem surrounding the chapter.

The Goblin Breach adds another layer to that experience. Temporary portals can appear in the world, sending players into unstable fragments of Orbis containing goblin-controlled biomes and other activities.

The Void presence within these areas creates additional danger, turning exploration into a race to grab loot and complete activities before being pushed back out.

Rune Abilities could change how players fight

Chapter 1 isn’t just throwing a giant boss at players and calling it a day.

The update also introduces the Rune Ability system, which gives players another way to modify their combat abilities.

Players can collect Runes and place them within a Runebinder’s Effigy to alter their abilities. Early abilities include:

  • Enrage, which increases both damage dealt and damage taken.
  • Fireball, which launches an explosive fireball.
  • Imbue Poison, which makes weapon attacks apply stacking poison.
  • Ground Slam, which creates an earthen spike that launches enemies upward.
  • Wind Strike, which causes the next three attacks to fire piercing wind arcs.

Earlier previews also described modifiers that could change how abilities behave. For example, a Fireball could be altered to split into multiple projectiles or apply an additional effect.

Hytale has also been experimenting with elemental interactions, such as using water before an electrical attack or combining fire with a tornado.

The Rune Ability system remains under development, meaning what players see in the pre-release builds is not necessarily the exact final version arriving on October 12.

Goblin gadgets add more ways to explore Chapter 1

The goblins aren’t just bringing enemies.

They’re also bringing inventions.

Hytale has previewed several new tools and traversal items for Chapter 1, including the Scrap Drill, Spyglass, Scrap Glider, Rocket Boots and Hookshot.

The Scrap Drill can break multiple blocks at once, while the Spyglass provides a closer look at distant locations.

The Scrap Glider allows players to dive and climb using sprint controls, while Rocket Boots provide a double jump.

Then there’s the Hookshot, which lets players pull themselves across the world using Hook Anchors.

Together, these systems give Chapter 1 a much larger gameplay identity than simply adding a new dungeon and boss.

Chapter 1 is still changing before launch

There is an important catch for anyone already practicing.

Chapter 1 is still in development.

Hytale has been releasing the new content through pre-release builds ahead of the full October launch. Its September 24 development notes described the latest release as the second wave of Chapter 1 content, while also emphasizing that the material can continue changing before release.

The first wave appeared through the September 3 Update 7 pre-release build, with much of the early Chapter 1 content accessible through Creative Mode for testing.

That means streamers can study portions of the upcoming content before launch, but they should not assume that every mechanic, enemy behavior or ability will remain exactly the same.

Hytale has already been balancing and adjusting individual systems during development. The Rune Ability system, in particular, has been described as something that will continue changing before release.

For anyone planning the $15,000 attempt, that creates another problem: the game they practice may not be identical to the game they have to beat.

The full $15,000 rules are still coming

This is probably the biggest thing potential contestants need to keep in mind.

Simon has not yet published the complete ruleset for the challenge.

He has said he will provide a:

“full rundown of the rules before launch”

So the currently announced conditions should be treated as the core requirements revealed so far, not necessarily the final eligibility document.

That leaves room for questions about specific items, consumables, mechanics and other edge cases to be clarified before the first winner can be officially recognized.

For now, the announced framework is:

  • The run must be solo.
  • The difficulty must be Hard.
  • The world must be played in Hardcore mode.
  • Armor is prohibited.
  • Potions are prohibited.
  • Glitches are prohibited.
  • Iron weapons available in Exploration Mode are allowed.
  • The run must be a legitimate progression run.
  • Creative Mode cannot be used to skip to the encounter.
  • The attempt must be streamed.
  • A VOD must be available for review.
  • The first streamer to complete a valid run is set to receive $15,000 from Simon Collins-Laflamme.

The rules may receive further clarification before launch.

October 12 is when the Gobliterator race gets real

All of this leads to October 12, 2026, when Hytale Chapter 1 is scheduled to launch.

Until then, players can study the available pre-release information, experiment with the systems that are already accessible and figure out how they might approach the new dungeon.

But there is a trade-off.

The more time a streamer spends practicing, the more time everyone else has to prepare too.

Chapter 1 itself is already shaping up to be one of Hytale’s biggest Early Access content drops, with the goblin faction, Forgotten Temple, Goblin Breach, Rune Abilities, new traversal technology, the handcrafted dungeon and the game’s first multi-phase boss fight all arriving together.

Now Simon has added a $15,000 race on top of it.

The result is a challenge that isn’t simply asking, “Can you beat the Gobliterator?”

It’s asking whether you can survive the journey to it, reach the fight legitimately, defeat it solo on Hard difficulty in Hardcore mode without armor or potions, avoid glitches, document the entire attempt and do all of that before another streamer gets there first.

And with the complete rules still waiting to be revealed, the real Gobliterator race hasn’t even started yet.
