An unusual dispute at a Bangkok host bar has exploded into a police investigation after an 18-year-old woman was allegedly shaved completely bald over an unpaid bill of nearly 60,000 baht, or around $1,800. The incident happened on August 25 in the Arun Amarin-Pinklao area and was captured on video before spreading widely across social media.
The woman, identified in local reports by the pseudonym Muay, allegedly entered the venue using an altered national ID and ordered more than 200 credited drinks for male entertainers. When she could not pay the bill, a reported agreement valued her hair at 3,000 baht. What followed has now become the central controversy: whether she genuinely consented to having her entire head shaved.

Bangkok Host Bar Unpaid Bill Dispute Started With More Than 200 Drinks
According to reports, Muay visited the Bangkok host bar after becoming interested in a male entertainer she had been following on TikTok. She reportedly wanted to meet him in person and began ordering credited drinks for the performers.
The tab eventually climbed to almost 60,000 baht. When the bill arrived, Muay reportedly said she did not have enough money to cover it, turning what began as a night out into a dispute involving the woman, the manager and staff.
The venue also alleged that Muay had entered using an altered identification document and claimed she had previously been involved in similar unpaid-bill incidents at entertainment establishments. Those claims remain allegations from the bar and local operators and have not been established as facts against her.
Her age is also part of the controversy. Muay was 18, while Thailand restricts alcohol sales to people under 20 and licensed entertainment venues are subject to age restrictions. That raises a separate question over how she was admitted to the venue despite allegedly using an altered ID.

3,000-Baht Hair Agreement Ends With 18-Year-Old Shaved Bald
With Muay unable to settle the bill, the venue reportedly considered ways to recover some of the money. According to the bar’s account, she eventually agreed to a contract selling her hair for 3,000 baht, with that amount deducted from the outstanding debt.
The agreement reportedly referred to cutting the hair from the roots. However, the situation went far beyond a conventional haircut when the manager used electric clippers to remove all of it.
The circulated footage shows Muay sitting in a white dress as her shoulder-length hair is progressively shaved away. She can be seen holding hair that has already been removed before the video ultimately shows her with a completely shaved head.
A man heard in the recording defended the transaction, saying:
“I am not taking advantage of you,” he said. “This is the market rate.”
Another account of the footage records him saying:
“I am not taking advantage of you. This is the market rate. I will attach this for you. I am adding extra for this as well. Okay?”
The bar reportedly said the removed hair was given to one of its employees for donation, although it did not identify the organisation or recipient.

Did the Woman Consent to Being Shaved? Police Now Investigate
This is where the story takes its most serious turn. The bar manager has denied that Muay was physically assaulted or forcibly shaved, maintaining that she and her mother agreed to the hair-for-debt arrangement.
Muay and her mother dispute that interpretation. Reports say the mother understood that some hair would be cut but did not realise the agreement would result in her daughter being completely bald.
Muay later told police that she had been threatened and pressured before the shaving. Her family also objected to the video being circulated publicly, saying she had not consented to its distribution.
The footage appears to show Muay participating in the signing of a hair-purchase agreement, but that does not by itself settle whether she was genuinely free to refuse. Police are expected to examine what happened before the agreement, how it was obtained and whether threats or physical force were involved.

Viral Video Sparks Backlash Over Bangkok Host Bar Incident
The incident received wider attention on August 27 after Chalida Phalamat of the Pen Nueng Foundation highlighted the footage.
Phalamat said she had received a video showing the manager shaving a female customer’s head before taking her to a police station over the unpaid bill.
She said:
“Someone sent a video of the manager of a host bar using clippers to shave a female customer’s head. Afterwards, he took the woman to the police station and filed a report saying she ate and didn’t pay,” Phalamat said.
Phalamat questioned why the venue did not simply report the alleged unpaid bill to police. She also challenged the extent of the haircut and raised concerns about whether Muay could genuinely have given free consent while under pressure.
She acknowledged that the venue could have suffered a financial loss if its account of the unpaid bill was correct, but argued that the response went beyond an ordinary debt dispute. She urged authorities to examine Muay’s circumstances and welfare and called on businesses dealing with suspected fraud or unpaid bills to use legal channels instead of imposing their own punishments.

18-Year-Old Files Police Complaint as Bar Apologises
On August 28, Muay and her mother went to Bang Yi Khan Police Station, where Muay filed a formal complaint concerning the incident. She accused the manager and staff of threatening her, physically mistreating her and coercing her into the hair-shaving arrangement.
The complaint also raised concerns about the video’s online distribution. The mother reportedly said she did not know her daughter would ultimately be shaved completely bald.
Reports have also described allegations of bruising and other possible signs of physical mistreatment, although these claims remain under investigation. Police reportedly directed Muay to undergo a physical examination, allowing investigators to compare medical findings with the competing accounts.
Investigators are also expected to examine the hair-sale document, the original video, messages connected to the incident and the circumstances surrounding the footage reaching social media. Thailand’s Ministry of Social Development and Human Security has also been asked to investigate.
Meanwhile, the backlash prompted the bar to respond through Phalamat. The manager reportedly apologised, acknowledged that he acted rashly after losing his temper and said the venue was prepared to contact Muay’s family to discuss financial assistance or compensation.
