Roblox Boosts DevEx Rate by 42% for 18+ Games: R15 Requirement, New API & June 2026 Launch

Roblox just dropped one of its biggest creator-facing updates in years, and if you build games on the platform, this one directly affects your earnings. Starting June 8, 2026, Roblox is paying out significantly more to creators whose games attract verified adult players in the US. However, there is a catch: your game needs to meet specific requirements to qualify, and the R15 avatar condition is already sparking debate across the community.

When Does Roblox DevEx Update Go Live?

The new system launches on June 8, 2026. From that date, eligible creators will automatically start earning at the higher DevEx rate, with no separate application needed.

What Is Actually Changing?

Roblox is introducing a new, higher Developer Exchange (DevEx) payout rate that specifically rewards creators who build games for age-checked players who are 18 or older and based in the US. Alongside this, Roblox has stated that games should use R15 avatars to qualify for the higher rate. This is not a hard technical block on R6, but it is a strong eligibility condition tied directly to the financial incentive.

The New DevEx Rate: How Much More Will Creators Earn?

Spend CategoryCurrent RateNew Rate
Eligible in-game spend by age-checked 18+ US players$0.38 per 100 Robux$0.54 per 100 Robux

That is a 42% increase in payout per 100 earned Robux for qualifying spend. If your game meets the requirements and a verified 18+ US player spends Robux inside it, you cash out significantly more than before.

What Counts as Eligible Spend?

Not everything qualifies for the higher rate. Roblox has confirmed the following item types as eligible:

  • Game Passes
  • Developer Products
  • Robux Subscriptions (in-game)
  • Private Servers

However, in-game avatar items and Marketplace items do not qualify, so creators should factor that distinction into their monetisation planning.

Why Does Roblox Recommend R15 for These Games?

Roblox’s official language here is that eligible games should use R15 avatars, rather than a strict blanket ban on R6. The reasoning is straightforward: 18+ players expect a more polished, realistic look and feel. R15 avatars support advanced skeletal joints, smooth motion through a modern animation system, layered clothing, and deeper customisation via Luau scripting. Roblox has positioned R15 as the quality baseline for games targeting older audiences.

Worth noting for developers: Roblox has confirmed it will share additional eligibility details for games using custom rigs or no avatars at all, since those cases sit in a grey area right now. Some developers are already exploring tools that set an experience to R15 at the settings level while maintaining custom visual rigs, though Roblox has not officially weighed in on those workarounds yet.

Who Qualifies as a Creator?

Creator eligibility is open globally. You do not need to be based in the US. Any creator whose game meets the R15 requirement and attracts age-checked 18+ players in the US will qualify automatically from June 8 onwards. No application or programme enrolment is required.

How the Cashout Works

You continue earning Robux exactly as you do today. The difference appears at the DevEx cashout stage, where Roblox separates your 18+ US earnings and cashes those out first at the higher $0.54 rate. Your Creator Analytics dashboard will show a separate line item for these earnings so you can track them clearly.

What About Roblox Plus Users?

If a player spending in your game is enrolled in Roblox Plus, the two incentives do not stack. Roblox applies whichever rate is more favourable to the creator, and since the 18+ US DevEx rate is the higher of the two, that is the one that applies.

Discovery Changes Running Alongside This

Roblox is also updating how games reach players as part of a broader push for what it calls “novel games,” meaning ambitious, high-quality titles built for longer-term retention. These discovery updates benefit creators building for the 18+ audience but are not exclusively tied to this DevEx change:

  • Standout Games sort is already live, offering prime Home page placement for curated novel games
  • Genre-focused sorts and “Because you played X” activity-based sorts are currently being tested
  • Video previews on Home are in testing to help players make more informed choices before clicking
  • The recommendation algorithm is shifting to weigh long-term player retention, not just short-term engagement signals

The New Age Check API

Roblox is also releasing an Age Check API that lets developers see which of their players have completed age verification and prompt unverified players to go through the process. This tool is not a requirement to qualify for the higher DevEx rate, but it gives creators a direct way to identify and grow the segment of their audience that earns them the most. Roblox will share full implementation details closer to the June 8 launch.

Why This is Relevant for the Wider Roblox Creator Scene

The 18 to 34 user cohort on Roblox is growing over 50% year-over-year in the US and monetises 50% higher than the under-18 cohort, according to Q1 2026 data from Roblox. Roblox creators collectively earned over $1.5 billion through DevEx in 2025, and this rate increase signals a clear strategic direction: Roblox wants high-quality games built for older players, and it is putting real financial weight behind that goal.
