For 14 seasons, Blue Bloods brought viewers into the complicated lives of the Reagan family, where police work, family loyalty and Sunday dinners were inseparable. But when the CBS crime drama ended in December 2024, one question remained: what would happen to the actors who had spent more than a decade bringing the New York law-enforcement family to life?
The answer has become more interesting with the arrival of Boston Blue. While some familiar faces have returned to the franchise, others have moved towards different projects, and the possibility of seeing Tom Selleck back as Frank Reagan continues to attract attention. The original series may be over, but the Reagan family’s story is far from completely finished.
What Happened to the Blue Bloods Cast After the Series Finale?
Blue Bloods premiered in September 2010 and followed the Reagans, a multigenerational law-enforcement family in New York City. The series concluded after 14 seasons and 293 episodes, with its final episode airing on December 13, 2024.
CBS announced the cancellation in November 2023 and subsequently confirmed that the 14th season would be the show’s last. The final season was released in two parts, bringing the long-running police procedural to its conclusion.
The decision disappointed some viewers and cast members, particularly because the show remained a strong performer for CBS late in its run. Tom Selleck was among the most vocal supporters of continuing the series.
Rather than reviving the original programme, CBS and Paramount expanded the franchise through Boston Blue. Premiering on October 17, 2025, the spinoff follows Danny Reagan as he leaves New York and begins a new chapter with the Boston Police Department.
Its second season premiered on October 9, 2026, and is currently airing. The series has introduced a new central family while bringing back selected characters from the original drama.
Here is where the principal Blue Bloods cast members stand as of October 25, 2026.

Donnie Wahlberg Is Leading the Blue Bloods Spinoff
Donnie Wahlberg remains the most directly connected cast member to the Blue Bloods franchise. After playing Detective Danny Reagan, the eldest son of Frank Reagan, for 14 seasons, he returned to the role in Boston Blue and also became an executive producer.
The spinoff begins with Danny leaving the NYPD for the Boston Police Department, where he partners with Detective Lena Silver, played by Sonequa Martin-Green. The move also brings Danny closer to his son Sean, now portrayed by Mika Amonsen.
CBS describes Boston Blue as a “universe expansion” of Blue Bloods rather than simply continuing the original series in its former New York setting.
Season 2 follows Danny as he considers a step up in the Boston Police Department. His relationship with former NYPD partner Maria Baez, played by Marisa Ramirez, also remains part of the story.
New episodes air on Fridays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and are available to stream through Paramount+. As of October 25, the third episode of Season 2, titled “Fire in the Hole”, has aired. The season’s first three episodes are “The Crash”, “Ripple Effect” and “Fire in the Hole”, with the third episode airing on October 23.
Wahlberg’s music career and possible Reagan family reunion
Wahlberg has continued performing with New Kids on the Block. The group launched its Las Vegas residency, The Right Stuff, at Dolby Live at Park MGM and later announced an extension into 2026.
According to MGM Resorts, the extension added 16 dates, bringing the residency to 24 shows for the year.
Away from the stage, Wahlberg and his wife, Jenny McCarthy, announced plans to relocate to Las Vegas in September 2026. PEOPLE reported that the couple was selling its Illinois home as they prepared for the move.
Wahlberg has also discussed the possibility of bringing more former cast members into Boston Blue. His recent comments have focused on Selleck and the possibility of Frank Reagan appearing in the spinoff.
In an interview published on October 24, 2026, Wahlberg said he hoped Selleck could eventually reprise the role. However, he stressed that such an appearance would need to be handled carefully and supported by a story worthy of both the actor and the character.
Tom Selleck Has Not Returned as Frank Reagan
Tom Selleck played Frank Reagan, the New York Police Commissioner and patriarch of the Reagan family, throughout all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods.
Although several former cast members have crossed over into Boston Blue, Selleck has not yet returned as Frank. He has continued speaking about the original series, its cancellation and his desire to see it continue.
In 2026, Selleck revealed that the Blue Bloods cast had accepted a 25% pay cut in an effort to keep the show going. He described the cancellation as frustrating and pointed to the programme’s strong performance towards the end of its run.
Selleck has also previously indicated that he did not necessarily consider continuing to play Frank Reagan his responsibility. That distinction matters when assessing the chances of a crossover appearance.
The Boston Blue creative team has left the door open to Frank returning if the right story develops. Wahlberg has expressed interest in working with Selleck again, and his October 2026 comments indicated that he understands what would be required to make the return worthwhile.
Wahlberg also described Selleck as someone who takes his work and the Blue Bloods legacy seriously.
However, there is still no confirmed announcement that Selleck will appear in Boston Blue. A possible return remains a possibility rather than an established casting development.
Selleck is also attached to an upcoming Apple TV comedy project starring Elizabeth Banks. Although Apple’s announcement does not establish him as a principal cast member, reports have described him as preparing for a guest role.
Away from acting, Selleck has been married to Jillie Mack since 1987. They have one daughter, Hannah.
Bridget Moynahan Returned as Erin Reagan
Bridget Moynahan played Erin Reagan, Frank’s daughter and a New York assistant district attorney who later became district attorney.
Following the original series finale, Moynahan remained closely involved with the franchise. She returned as Erin during the first season of Boston Blue, appearing in the episode “L’dor Vador”, which aired on May 1, 2026.
The episode brought Erin back into Danny’s life and included the siblings returning towards New York for a Reagan family dinner.
Moynahan also directed an episode of the spinoff, extending her involvement beyond her performance as Erin.
Her appearance was significant because Boston Blue focuses on Danny’s new life in Boston, whereas the original programme placed considerable emphasis on the Reagan family’s New York relationships and regular family dinners.
Erin’s return allowed the spinoff to reconnect Danny with that familiar dynamic without permanently bringing the entire original cast back.
Outside the franchise, Moynahan continues her professional work and is the mother of Jack, whom she shares with former NFL quarterback Tom Brady. She married businessman Andrew Frankel in 2015.
Will Estes Is Returning as Jamie Reagan
Will Estes played Jamie Reagan, Danny’s younger brother, throughout the original series.
After Blue Bloods ended, Estes maintained a relatively low public profile. However, his connection to the franchise resumed when his return as Jamie was announced for Boston Blue Season 2 in 2026.
Paramount+ confirms that Jamie Reagan is part of the second season, alongside the return of Henry Reagan.
Jamie and Danny shared one of the original series’ central sibling relationships, making the crossover another direct link between the New York-based drama and Danny’s new life in Boston.
Estes’ return also demonstrates how Boston Blue is bringing back individual members of the Reagan family rather than attempting to recreate the entire original ensemble.
Len Cariou Is Balancing American Classic With Boston Blue
Len Cariou played Henry Reagan, Frank’s father and the grandfather of Danny, Erin and Jamie.
Cariou has continued working both within and outside the Blue Bloods universe. He joined American Classic, an MGM+ comedy starring Kevin Kline that premiered on March 1, 2026.
The series centres on Broadway actor Richard Bean, who returns to his hometown after a professional collapse and becomes involved with his family’s theatre. Cariou plays Linus Bean.
He has also returned as Henry Reagan in Boston Blue. Henry appeared during the first season and returned for the Season 2 premiere, “The Crash”.
The character remains an important connection between Danny and the Reagan family in New York. In the original series, Henry was someone Danny could turn to for advice, and his appearances help preserve that familiar family bond in the spinoff.
Andrew Terraciano Has Moved Towards Education and Theatre
Andrew Terraciano played Sean Reagan, Danny’s younger son, from the early years of Blue Bloods through the series finale.
Terraciano effectively grew up on the programme. His real-life brother, Tony Terraciano, also appeared in the series as Jack Reagan before Jack’s storyline took him away from the family’s regular New York setting.
Andrew’s path since the finale has differed from those of cast members returning to the franchise.
He graduated from New York University in 2025 and continued his education, including graduate-level work in Italian studies. He also pursued theatre, making his stage debut in a production of Annie Baker’s The Antipodes at NYU’s American Classics Theater.
In Boston Blue, Sean is now played by Mika Amonsen. The recasting reflects the spinoff’s decision to present Danny’s son at a different stage of his life.
Terraciano has spoken openly about learning that the role had been recast. He expressed appreciation for the opportunity to play Sean for so many years and said he was able to send his version of the character into the world before another actor took over.
The change does not mean he has abandoned acting. He continues balancing his performance interests with his education and has indicated that he remains open to contributing to the Blue Bloods universe in some capacity, even if he does not return as Sean.
Which Other Blue Bloods Characters Have Returned?
The connections between the original series and Boston Blue extend beyond Danny’s immediate family.
Marisa Ramirez continues as Detective Maria Baez, Danny’s longtime NYPD partner. Paramount+ confirms that Baez remains part of Season 2, with the story continuing to develop the relationship established during the first season.
Will Hochman has also been associated with the returning Reagan family storyline as Joe Hill, Henry Reagan’s grandson and another member of the extended family.
Together, the appearances of Henry, Erin, Jamie, Baez and Joe Hill help Boston Blue acknowledge the original series without recreating its entire cast.
The spinoff has also established its own central family around Sonequa Martin-Green’s Detective Lena Silver. The Silver family includes District Attorney Mae Silver, Police Superintendent Sarah Silver, rookie officer Jonah Silver and Reverend Edwin Peters.
This new family structure is central to the difference between the two shows. Boston Blue is not simply a renamed continuation of Blue Bloods. It follows Danny’s move to Boston and introduces a separate setting and family while retaining selected characters and relationships from the original drama.
Will Tom Selleck Return to Boston Blue?
As of October 25, 2026, there is no confirmed appearance by Tom Selleck in Boston Blue.
The possibility remains a talking point because Frank Reagan was the original series’ central patriarch and Selleck one of its most recognisable stars.
Both the creative team and Wahlberg have indicated that a return could be considered if the right story emerged. However, the latest comments do not constitute a casting announcement.
Wahlberg’s position is that an appearance would need careful handling, with a story that respects Selleck and the legacy of Blue Bloods. Until an official announcement is made, Frank Reagan’s potential return should be treated as unconfirmed.
Conclusion: The Blue Bloods Cast Is Moving Forward, but the Reagan Legacy Lives On
The end of Blue Bloods did not mean the end of every character’s story. Donnie Wahlberg continues as Danny Reagan in Boston Blue, Bridget Moynahan has returned as Erin and directed an episode, Will Estes is back as Jamie, and Len Cariou continues as Henry while appearing in American Classic.
Andrew Terraciano, meanwhile, has focused on education and theatre following Sean’s recasting, while Tom Selleck has not returned as Frank Reagan and remains the subject of ongoing discussion about the franchise’s future.
With its second season now airing, Boston Blue has established a new setting around Danny’s Boston career and the Silver family while maintaining connections to the Reagans.
For viewers who followed the family for 14 seasons, the distinction is clear: the original Blue Bloods story concluded on December 13, 2024, but its fictional universe remains active through the spinoff. Whether Frank Reagan eventually joins the story again remains an open question.
