Born Nigel John Dermot Neill on 14 September 1947 in Omagh, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, Sam Neill was the son of English mother Priscilla Beatrice Ingham and New Zealand father Dermot Neill.
His family relocated to New Zealand in 1954, first settling in Christchurch before later moving to Dunedin. During his school years, he adopted the name “Sam,” the name that would eventually become recognized around the world.

Neill entered a clinical trial in Australia for CAR T-cell therapy, later announcing that scans showed he was cancer-free.
