Shortly after, he visits a hospital where a young girl named Chae-rin has been admitted with severe burns. She claims the injury was accidental, however Woo-seok suspects her mother deliberately harmed her to collect insurance money. It is a scene that quietly reinforces just how far people will go for financial gain, and how attuned Woo-seok has become to spotting deception.
The episode then introduces Han Seol-ah at work, where she examines artwork before a major auction and unhesitatingly slashes a painting she identifies as a forgery. She is clearly someone who does not tolerate dishonesty in her professional world, which makes the cloud of suspicion surrounding her personal life all the more intriguing.
At the auction, a valuable painting titled Universe is sold to wealthy buyer Baek Jun-beom. However, tension simmers beneath the surface between Seol-ah and her colleague Kim Yun-ji, who believes she deserves more recognition and hints that she knows a damaging secret about Seol-ah.
Yun-ji later contacts Woo-seok and claims to have information about a murder connected to an insurance payout, arranging to meet him with the details. However, just as Woo-seok arrives, Yun-ji is attacked inside the building and falls from the roof to her death. Investigators later confirm she was grabbed before falling, establishing her death as murder rather than an accident.
Woo-seok begins looking deeper into Seol-ah’s background and discovers that her fiancรฉ, Yun Seung-jae, recently died, and that she had a substantial life insurance policy on him that was cancelled before his death. He approaches Seol-ah directly and questions her, but she remains completely composed and brushes him off without giving anything away. The episode closes with a flashback to the night of Yun-ji’s death, showing Seol-ah standing on the balcony above. It is a closing image that raises far more questions than it answers.
Siren’s Kiss Episode 2
Episode 2 opens with a flashback showing Seol-ah being informed of Seung-jae’s death and travelling to a dock to identify his body. Back in the present, Woo-seok continues pressing Seol-ah about the cancelled insurance policy and the circumstances surrounding Seung-jae’s death, though their conversation is interrupted by a man named Do Eun-hyuk, who appears to be close to Seol-ah.
While investigating Yun-ji’s death, Woo-seok visits her home to deliver insurance documents to her mother. Seol-ah also arrives with Yun-ji’s belongings. Inside Yun-ji’s room, Woo-seok finds a business card belonging to Seung-jae, while Seol-ah separately notices a calendar containing Yun-ji’s daily schedule and quietly pockets it without drawing attention to herself. It is a small moment, however it lands with significant weight given everything that surrounds it.
Woo-seok soon discovers that Seung-jae owned a restaurant that Yun-ji had visited shortly before his death, and that Seol-ah’s reaction to his passing had struck a responding officer as unusually flat. He then widens his investigation into Seol-ah’s past relationships and uncovers that a psychiatrist named Choi Yeong-ho had taken out a life insurance policy naming Seol-ah as the beneficiary. That policy was cancelled shortly before Yeong-ho died by suicide.
A nurse at the hospital where Yeong-ho worked adds another disturbing layer when she tells Woo-seok that Seol-ah had previously dated another man who later died during a terror attack in Syria. The pattern is becoming impossible to ignore.
By the end of the episode, Woo-seok confronts Seol-ah directly and lays out everything he has found: multiple men connected to her have died under deeply unusual circumstances. Seol-ah responds with complete calm and asks him who he thinks will fall for her next.
