Resident Evil Requiem, also known as RE9, is Capcom’s latest mainline survival horror release. The game launched on 27 February 2026 and you can play it on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. The story follows two playable protagonists, Grace Ashcroft and Leon S. Kennedy, across Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center and the ruins of Raccoon City.

If you have already finished your first playthrough and are ready to go again, here is everything you need to know about New Game Plus in Resident Evil Requiem and what it actually offers.

Does Resident Evil Requiem Have NG+ Plus?

Technically, Resident Evil Requiem does not have a traditional New Game Plus mode as a named option in the menu. However, once you complete the game and start a second playthrough, you do receive a meaningful set of benefits that function in the same way as a New Game Plus system. The mode simply does not carry that label in-game.

This approach follows the pattern of more recent Resident Evil titles, where the second playthrough experience is enhanced through the Special Content system rather than a dedicated NG+ toggle.

Key facts:

  • Resident Evil Requiem does not label its second playthrough as “New Game Plus” in the game’s menus
  • However, completing the campaign unlocks perks and content that carry into subsequent playthroughs
  • Your standard items and weapons do not carry over automatically. Instead, bonus gear comes through the Special Content system
  • Starting a new game uses your existing save data. If you want a completely clean slate, you need to delete your saves or use a separate user profile

How To Unlock New Game Plus In Resident Evil Requiem

The requirement to unlock New Game Plus benefits in Resident Evil Requiem is straightforward: you need to complete the campaign from start to finish. Once the credits roll, the game returns you to the main menu, and several new options and rewards become available immediately.

What unlocks after completing the campaign:

  • Insanity Mode becomes available as a new high-difficulty option
  • A behind-the-scenes video, concept art, and character model viewing unlock
  • The Jacket costume for both Grace and Leon becomes available
  • The Tactical Light skin for Leon’s Alligator Snapper weapon unlocks
  • All hidden challenge requirements and bonus content options become visible
  • Additional CP (Completion Points) unlock upon finishing the game, which you can spend in the Special Content menu

Once you have spent your CP on Special Content items, those purchases carry into your next playthrough through supply boxes and item boxes depending on which character you are playing as.

What Is The Special Content System?

The Special Content menu is the core of Resident Evil Requiem’s New Game Plus experience. Rather than carrying your existing gear forward automatically, the game lets you spend CP (Completion Points) on specific weapons, upgrades, and bonuses that then become available in item boxes and supply boxes during your next run.

CP is earned by completing in-game challenges throughout the campaign, as well as through finishing the game itself. Special Content items include powerful weapons, gameplay modifiers, and what the game refers to as “cheat” bonuses.

Important note on Special Content cheats: Options like Infinite Ammo, Infinite Hatchet durability, and Infinite RPG-7 ammo can be disabled via the Options menu even after you have purchased and unlocked them. They are entirely optional and do not have to be active during your second playthrough.

What Carries Over For Leon In New Game Plus?

Leon’s New Game Plus experience in Resident Evil Requiem is significantly enhanced compared to his first playthrough. Here is what changes for him specifically:

  • The Tactical Tracker appears in Leon’s inventory from the very start of your second playthrough. This allows him to earn Credits immediately from the beginning of the campaign
  • Supply boxes appear in every area of the game during a second playthrough, including right at the start of the city street sequence in Leon’s opening section
  • From those supply boxes, Leon can access and purchase any Special Content weapons and upgrades you have unlocked via CP
  • Leon can tune up and upgrade his weapons much earlier than in a first playthrough, making the opening sections considerably more action-forward

However, it is worth noting that all of Leon’s weapons acquired through normal story progression and exploration during a first playthrough need to be repurchased through supply boxes in subsequent runs. They do not carry over automatically.

Two specific purchases are worth prioritising for Leon’s sections. Before the Chunk boss fight, you should purchase a shotgun from the supply box. Additionally, when you reach the sequence where you need to protect Grace at the Chapel grounds, purchasing a sniper rifle beforehand is strongly recommended.

Special Content weapons available for Leon include:

  • Ghost Grudge
  • Redemption
  • Clatter Carbine
  • Mortal Edge
  • RPG-7

What Carries Over For Grace In New Game Plus?

Grace’s New Game Plus experience is more challenging than Leon’s by comparison, since she does not benefit from the same supply box system he does. Instead, Grace still needs to reacquire most of her regular upgrades through exploration during a second playthrough. These include Steroids and Stabilizers for health and damage improvements, and Hip Pouches for extra inventory slots.

However, Grace does benefit from the Special Content system in the following confirmed ways:

  • Any Special Content weapons and bonus items you purchased with CP become available in Grace’s item boxes during a second run
  • Any charm accessories collected in a previous playthrough, such as the Stakeout Takeout Charm and Eye Spy Charm, will appear in an item box during later runs
  • Grace’s first item box in a second playthrough appears in the Guard Office, which she reaches after entering the Care Center and completing the first hallway chase sequence

The Kotetsu is one of the most recommended purchases for Grace’s second playthrough. It is an unbreakable knife, which means Grace no longer needs to carry breakable knives in her limited inventory. Freeing up those inventory slots makes resource management considerably more comfortable throughout her sections.

The Matsuoka Master Manual is another strong purchase for Grace. It permanently increases the maximum capacity of the Blood Collector, which expands her crafting options. Notably, this bonus stacks with the manual available from the Parlor earlier in the game, making it even more valuable across multiple playthroughs.

What Else Unlocks After Completing Resident Evil Requiem?

Beyond the New Game Plus benefits, completing Resident Evil Requiem for the first time triggers several additional unlocks worth knowing about:

Insanity Mode: This is the hardest difficulty setting in the game and only becomes available after you clear the campaign once. Insanity Mode features stronger enemies, scarcer resources, changed item locations, altered safe combinations, and the Ink Ribbon save mechanic from Standard (Classic). Completing Insanity Mode rewards the “Remarkable Agent” achievement, which also grants 40,000 CP.

Costumes: The Jacket costume for both Grace and Leon unlocks after completing the campaign. Additional costumes can also be purchased through the Special Content menu using CP.

Behind-the-Scenes Content: A video, concept art gallery, and character model viewer unlock after the credits roll.

All Challenge Requirements Visible: Hidden challenge objectives become fully visible after your first playthrough, which makes it much easier to target specific completionist goals on a second run.

Should You Do A Casual Run Before Insanity?

If your goal is to build up enough CP to make Insanity Mode manageable, doing a second playthrough on Casual difficulty before attempting Insanity is a practical approach. Casual offers a relaxed experience that lets you focus on completing advanced challenges rather than surviving tough encounters.

Challenges such as Speed Demon, Minimalist, and Never Touch the Stuff are much easier to complete on Casual and can earn you a significant amount of CP to spend before entering Insanity Mode.

Final Thoughts

Resident Evil Requiem’s version of New Game Plus rewards players who invest time in completing challenges and spending CP wisely through the Special Content menu. Leon benefits the most immediately, with supply boxes appearing across the entire game from the very start of a second run. Grace’s experience remains more survival-focused, but the right Special Content purchases, particularly the Kotetsu knife and the Matsuoka Master Manual, make a meaningful difference to how her sections feel on a second pass.

If you are planning to work toward 100% completion, a second playthrough is not optional. It is an essential part of unlocking everything Resident Evil Requiem has to offer.
