Official PlayStation Plus October Monthly Games announcement graphic featuring Alan Wake 2, Goat Simulator 3, and Cocoon, available for PS5 and PS4 subscribers.

PlayStation Plus subscribers are in for a treat this October, as Sony has revealed a lineup that mixes psychological horror, chaotic comedy, and mind-bending puzzle adventure. Starting October 7, 2025, PlayStation Plus members will be able to download Alan Wake 2, Goat Simulator 3, and Cocoon—a trio of games that could not be more different, yet together form one of the most intriguing lineups in recent months. The offer runs until November 3, 2025.

In addition, PlayStation Plus Premium members will gain access to a time-limited Game Trial of Midnight Murder Club, giving players up to one hour to test the game with progress and trophies carrying over if purchased.

Let’s take a closer look at each title in October’s lineup.

Alan Wake 2 (PS5) – A Psychological Horror Masterpiece

Highlights:

  • Dual protagonists: Alan Wake & Saga Anderson.
  • Survival horror with limited resources.
  • Light-based combat mechanics.
  • Atmospheric Pacific Northwest setting.
  • Narrative-driven experience from Remedy Entertainment (Control).

Few names in modern gaming evoke the same haunting atmosphere as Alan Wake. Now, with Alan Wake 2, Remedy Entertainment takes its surreal storytelling to even darker and more experimental territory.

What begins as a seemingly ordinary small-town murder investigation spirals into a nightmare that blurs reality itself. Players switch between two protagonists: Alan Wake, trapped within the shifting, sinister “Dark Place,” and Saga Anderson, an FBI agent investigating disturbing events in the Pacific Northwest. Each perspective offers a distinct gameplay experience—Saga’s grounded detective work contrasts sharply with Wake’s desperate struggle to rewrite reality and escape his torment.

The game’s environments are equally striking: eerie forests, fog-soaked lakes, unsettling towns, and the shifting labyrinth of the Dark Place. Combat demands resourcefulness, as ammunition is scarce and light itself becomes your most valuable weapon.

Goat Simulator 3 (PS4, PS5) – Mayhem in Hooves

Highlights:

  • Sandbox chaos with Pilgor the goat.
  • Online & local multiplayer (up to 4 players).
  • Mini-games for competitive fun.
  • Open-world exploration with over-the-top physics.
  • Perfect for comedy and casual gaming.

If Alan Wake 2 embodies brooding atmosphere, Goat Simulator 3 takes the opposite route—embracing absurdity, chaos, and slapstick fun. Once again, players step into the hooves of Pilgor the goat, this time with more open-world antics and the option to bring friends along for the ride.

This “totally realistic” simulator is anything but, offering a sandbox of mayhem where you can headbutt cars, lick random objects, launch yourself into chaos, and generally wreak havoc across a sprawling new environment. The game shines brightest in multiplayer, with up to four players teaming up online or locally to create carnage together—or sabotage each other in competitive mini-games.

It’s silly, self-aware, and designed to waste your time in the most entertaining ways possible. For players looking for stress-free fun, Goat Simulator 3 ensures endless laughs.

Cocoon (PS4, PS5) – Worlds Within Worlds

Highlights:

  • Puzzle-adventure with innovative orb mechanics.
  • Worlds exist within other worlds.
  • Each orb unlocks unique abilities.
  • Alien-inspired environments and biomes.
  • Created by Limbo and Inside designer Jeppe Carlsen.

Rounding out the lineup is Cocoon, the critically acclaimed puzzle adventure from Jeppe Carlsen, lead gameplay designer behind indie classics Limbo and Inside. Unlike the chaotic comedy of Goat Simulator or the psychological terror of Alan Wake 2, Cocoon offers a meditative yet challenging experience that rewards observation and experimentation.

The game’s central mechanic revolves around orbs—self-contained worlds that players can carry and manipulate. By diving into one orb while carrying another, players unlock layered puzzles where worlds exist inside worlds. Each orb also possesses unique abilities that expand gameplay possibilities, from unlocking hidden paths to interacting with alien machinery.

The environments are breathtakingly diverse, spanning mechanical ruins, organic caverns, and otherworldly landscapes shaped by a mysterious ancient civilization. Puzzle fans will find Cocoon to be a mesmerizing journey that constantly reinvents its own rules.

Don’t Miss September’s Final Chance

Before October’s lineup goes live, PlayStation Plus members still have until October 6, 2025 to add last month’s games—Psychonauts 2, Stardew Valley, and Viewfinder—to their library. Once claimed, they remain yours to play as long as you maintain an active subscription.

A Lineup for Every Type of Player

October 2025’s PlayStation Plus selection feels deliberately diverse:

  • For horror fans, Alan Wake 2 delivers narrative depth and tense survival gameplay.
  • For comedy seekers, Goat Simulator 3 unleashes chaotic co-op fun.
  • For puzzle enthusiasts, Cocoon offers quiet brilliance and innovation.

It’s rare for a monthly lineup to cover so many different moods and playstyles, but October’s free games demonstrate Sony’s commitment to variety in its PlayStation Plus offerings. Whether you want to be scared, amused, or challenged, this month’s collection ensures you’ll find something worth downloading.
