Pokemon Pokopia is a life-sim RPG where you build habitats, befriend Pokemon, and work through a main story full of unique challenges. The Game Boy System is one of three key items required near the end of that story, and its unlock condition trips up a huge number of players because hitting the required level alone is often not enough. If you have already reached Environment Level 5 in Sparkling Skylands and still have nothing to show for it, this guide explains exactly why and what to do next.
What Is the Game Boy System Used For?

The Game Boy System is a required submission item for Team Initiation Challenge 7, a late stage of the long-running “Do the… Team Initiation Challenge?” request that spans the entire main story. Earlier parts involve berries, crops, lumber, and bricks. However, Challenge 7 requires three specific items, one from each of the final areas, to be handed in together at the Challenge tower:
| Item | Unlock Condition | Crafting Material |
| Game Boy System | Environment Level 5 at Sparkling Skylands | 1x Pokemetal |
| Refrigerator | Environment Level 5 at Bleak Beach | 2x Pokemetal |
| Washing Machine | Environment Level 5 at Rocky Ridges | 1x Pokemetal |
Completing this challenge contributes directly to finishing the main story and reaching the credits. The reward for completing this stage is the Volcanoey Badge. If you craft all three items from scratch after unlocking their recipes, you will need a total of 4x Pokemetal.
Before You Start: Accessing Sparkling Skylands
Sparkling Skylands is the final major story area in Pokemon Pokopia and requires specific conditions before you can enter. You need to complete all main quests in Withered Wasteland, Bleak Beach, and Rocky Ridges, and reach Ultra Trainer Rank, which is tied to story progress and typically unlocks after meeting Raikou in Bleak Beach. Once those conditions are met, entry gates open from the north side of Bleak Beach, the far right of Rocky Ridges, or the back of Withered Wasteland.
Where to Get the Game Boy System
After meeting the conditions below, head to the PC located next to the Pokemon Center in Sparkling Skylands and interact with it. The game thanks you for your continued use of Poké Life and hands over both the Game Boy System item and its crafting recipe together in one interaction.
You can check your current Environment Level for any area at any Pokemon Center PC, where it displays at the top of the screen.
One firm rule: you cannot 3D print the Game Boy System. The initial copy only comes from this PC interaction. Once you have the recipe, however, you can craft additional copies using 1x Pokemetal.
Why Reaching Level 5 Is Not Always Enough

This is where most players get stuck. Reaching Environment Level 5 in Sparkling Skylands is required, but frequently not sufficient on its own. Here is the full recommended sequence to avoid hitting Level 5 and finding the PC gives nothing:
Step 1: Raise Environment Level 3 and Rebuild the Pokemon Center

The first gate in Sparkling Skylands is reaching Environment Level 3, which unlocks the “Rebuild the Pokemon Center” Important Request. You need to purchase the Pokemon Center Rebuilding Kit from the Shop for around 1,000 Life Coins, then provide the required materials and Pokemon helpers to complete the rebuild. This step typically must happen before you can fully engage with the Tinkmaster Quest, so do not skip past it.
Step 2: Complete the Tinkmaster Quest (“Rebuild the Huge Building!”)
This is the main story thread in Sparkling Skylands and the most common reason the Game Boy System does not appear at the PC even after reaching Level 5. Work through the following stages:
- Meet Tinkmaster (Tinkaton) on a floating island east of the Pokemon Center by climbing a tall tower. Note that reaching Tinkmaster requires the Glide ability, which you learn from Dragonite by setting up a Waterside Dinghy habitat first.
- Make Tinkagears: Tinkmaster’s initial request is typically 6 Concrete and 1 Iron Ingot to produce Tinkagears, which are used to build lift platforms. Attract Conkeldurr via a Construction Site Generator habitat to produce concrete.
- Build lift platforms: Each lift platform requires 5 Iron Ingots, 5 Concrete, and 1 Tinkagear. These platforms are needed to escort Tinkmaster and Professor Tangrowth to the ruined skyscraper.
- Escort Tinkmaster and Professor Tangrowth to the Skyland Building and begin investigating each floor.
- Contribute materials and Pokemon helpers to rebuild the building floor by floor.
The reconstruction spans multiple floors, each with its own requirements:
| Floor | Key Materials Required | Pokemon Needed |
| Floor 2 | 25 Concrete, 10 Glass, 5 Pokemetal, 10 Iron Ingots | Tinkmaster + 5 others |
| Floor 3 | 25 Concrete, 10 Glass, 10 Glowing Stone, 15 Copper Ingots | Tinkmaster + Chef Dente + 6 to 8 others |
| Floor 4 | 40 Concrete, 15 Glass, 10 Paper, 10 Bricks, 20 Lumber | Tinkmaster + Peakychu + 13 or more others |
After completing all floors, talk to Tinkmaster on the roof, then return to Professor Tangrowth to wrap up the quest. Tinkmaster significantly speeds up all building projects, reducing rebuild times from a full day down to roughly one hour.
Step 3: Speak to Professor Tangrowth
After hitting Level 5 or completing key Tinkmaster milestones, speaking to Professor Tangrowth often triggers the cutscene or reward that confirms progress. If the PC gives nothing after Level 5, check for any outstanding requests or unfinished conversations with Tangrowth before trying the PC again.
Step 4: Interact with the PC
Once all the above steps are in order, the PC next to the Pokemon Center in Sparkling Skylands will deliver the Game Boy System and its crafting recipe in one interaction.
How to Reach Environment Level 5 at Sparkling Skylands Quickly
Run these alongside your story progress rather than after it to avoid delays:
Build varied habitats and befriend new Pokemon
Sparkling Skylands supports a wide range of habitats. A Fluffy Flower Bed with Skyland Flowers attracts Vulpix, a Hydrated version draws in Dratini, a Tree-shaded habitat suits Servine, a Construction Site Generator brings in Conkeldurr (also needed for concrete production), and a Waterside Dinghy attracts Dragonite, which you need for Glide. More Pokemon in the area means faster Environment Level gains.
Build and properly furnish houses
A house only qualifies as a valid residence if it has 4 walls, a door, and at least 3 pieces of furniture inside. Pokemon will not move in until all three conditions are met. Housed Pokemon raise the Environment Level far more efficiently than Pokemon left in open habitats, so prioritise getting them into furnished homes.
Clear all debris and trash
Clearing scattered debris across the floating islands is one of the fastest Environment Level boosts in Sparkling Skylands. Use Water Gun or Leafage to restore dried areas, and replant grass, flowers, and trees where needed.
Raise Comfort Levels
Decorate each Pokemon’s habitat and house according to its individual preferences. Feed Pokemon their favourite flavours, which you can check via their Pokedex entries, for quick Comfort gains. Achieving an “Awesome” Comfort rating on your own house provides an area-wide bonus to the Environment Level.
Complete Requests, Mini Games, and Road Upgrades
Finishing Pokemon requests and playing mini games add incremental gains. Building and upgrading roads across the floating island sections also contribute to the overall Environment Level.
Can You Keep the Game Boy System If Your Environment Level Drops?
Yes. Once you collect the Game Boy System from the PC, you keep the item permanently even if Sparkling Skylands later drops below Level 5. However, if the level drops, the crafting recipe will no longer be available to purchase from the PC Shop, so claim the recipe alongside the item and do not delay.
