Who Is Sierra and What Can She Do?

Sierra is the headline addition for Season 2: Summit and joins the roster as a Damage hero. As Head of Security for Watchpoint: Grand Mesa, she brings a kit built around controlling space, gathering information, and supporting coordinated team pushes.

Here is a summary of the key highlights of her kit based on what Blizzard has confirmed:

  • Helix Rifle: Her primary weapon, which fires in a distinctive helix pattern
  • Tracking Shot: Marks enemies to help Sierra and her team engage more effectively
  • Anchor Drone (Dorothy): A deployable drone used for repositioning and area control
  • Tremor Charge: An explosive grenade that disrupts enemy positioning
  • Ultimate: Trailblazer: A drone-deployed airstrike targeting a designated area
  • Passive: Recon: Reveals low-health enemies through walls after Sierra damages them

Sierra fits best in coordinated team compositions where her information-gathering tools can make the most impact. Her drone Dorothy is central to her kit, so understanding how Dorothy interacts with positioning will be key to getting value from her early on.

What Is the Operation: Grand Mesa Event?

The Operation: Grand Mesa event runs from 14 April to 4 May 2026 and places Sierra’s arrival at the centre of a three-week narrative experience. The event builds on the story of her stand against Talon forces and the assault on Watchpoint: Grand Mesa.

How the event works:

  • Week 1 unlocks Tier 1 challenges that contribute to the event Rewards Pass
  • Week 1 also includes Meta challenges, which take longer but reward more
  • Week 2 unlocks Tier 2 challenges, provided all non-Meta Tier 1 challenges are complete
  • Completing challenges unlocks additional lore entries tied to Sierra’s story
  • All three weeks remain available to complete every challenge tier

Rewards available through the event:

  • 1 Epic Lootbox
  • 1 Legendary Lootbox
  • 1 Rare Title
  • 3 Battle Pass Tier Skips
  • 2 Sierra Voicelines
  • 1 Sierra Spray
  • 1 Sierra Avatar
  • 1 Sierra Namecard

Junkrat’s Loot Hunt also returns after the main event concludes, running from 8 to 11 May, where players can earn additional lootboxes by completing challenges as they play.

What Changed With Post-Match Accolades?

Post-Match Accolades return in Season 2 in an updated format. After each match, the two top-performing heroes from each team appear on a 3D stage, and players vote to crown an MVP. The hero Blizzard identifies as the best performer on each team receives one bonus vote to slightly increase their chances of winning.

Key details for the returning system:

  • Players can Endorse teammates directly from the hero portrait on either side of the stage
  • For the first time, Match Voice Chat becomes available as Post-Match Accolades begin in Unranked and Competitive Play
  • Voice Chat opt-in is manual and monitored for disruptive behaviour
  • Epic and Legendary voice lines play for the MVP winner
  • Heroic Endorsements return, letting players commend teammates for specific positive traits

What Changed With Antarctic Peninsula?

Antarctic Peninsula returns in Season 2 with a full rework. Blizzard redesigned all three zones of the map, the Icebreaker, Research Station, and Underground, to improve competitive balance and add new pathways and sightlines. The rework aims to reduce spawn trapping and give teams more room to make strategic decisions around objectives.

Players who relied on older positioning habits will want to spend a few sessions relearning the map before locking in old routines.

Blizzard also introduced Map Voting updates alongside the rework:

  • New “New Map” and “Reworked Map” tags now appear in voting, granting bonus Battle Pass XP in Quick Play and an automatic +10 Competitive Points in Competitive Play
  • The penalty for losing on a New or Reworked map is reduced, so there is less risk in trying them out
  • A Random Map option is added as a fourth choice and will never duplicate one of the three visible maps
  • When a map leads by 6 or more votes, it wins by Landslide and skips the roll entirely
  • New Attack and Defend icons on map cards for Hybrid and Escort modes tell players which side they will start on
  • At least two different game modes will always appear across the three visible maps

Hero Balance Changes: Perks System Refresh

Rather than a sweeping overhaul, Blizzard describes the Season 2 balance update as a targeted Perks system refresh. The goal is to reinforce hero identity by moving several popular perks directly into heroes’ base kits, then introducing new perk options and adjusting earn timing to keep acquisition balanced across all roles.

Blizzard also made additional tuning specific to 6v6 modes to address heroes that were over or underperforming compared to 5v5. All 5v5 hero changes apply to both modes unless Blizzard explicitly states otherwise.

For the complete hero-by-hero breakdown covering every perk change, cooldown adjustment, and 6v6 tuning note, you can find the full list on the official Overwatch patch notes page.

Stadium Updates in Season 2 Summit

Ramattra joins the Stadium roster in Season 2: Summit alongside a new map, Lijiang Night Market. He arrives with a full suite of powers and hero items covering weapon power, ability power, and survival-focused build options.

Juno also received a Stadium-specific rework this season to expand her build variety beyond torpedo-focused loadouts, giving players more ways to approach her kit competitively. Jetpack Cat is confirmed for Stadium as well but arrives mid-season rather than at launch.

Blizzard also adjusted Stadium’s ranked progression. At the start of each new Competitive Season, players receive ranked progress based on where they finished the previous season:

Previous RankSeason Start Point
ContenderNovice (5 divisions down)
EliteContender (5 divisions down)
ProElite (5 divisions down)
All StarElite (10 divisions down)
LegendElite (15 divisions down)

New Skins and Cosmetics in Season 2 Summit

Season 2: Summit brings two new Mythic-tier cosmetics alongside a full seasonal Battle Pass:

  • Mythic Volted Overdrive Soldier: 76 skin
  • Mythic Sumi-ichimonji Genji weapon skin
  • Spring Fairy themed skins across multiple heroes
  • Sakura Bundle cosmetic set
  • Panda Jetpack Cat skin

Blizzard has also confirmed additional mid-season content is on the way, including the start of Overwatch’s 10-Year Anniversary event and a new collaboration. Full details on both have not been announced yet, so it is worth keeping an eye on official Overwatch channels as the season progresses.
