The Blood of Dawnwalker Home Sweet Home Walkthrough: How to Escape the Dream and Unlock Together Forever

Published on

in

Coen in a church setting with red spectral figures surrounding a priest during the sermon puzzle in The Blood of Dawnwalker.

Home Sweet Home is one of the wildest side quests in The Blood of Dawnwalker, because what starts as a trip through Silts Tower quickly turns into a nightmare that refuses to end.

Coen is thrown into a surreal recreation of his childhood home, loses access to his normal equipment, watches his family get abducted, and then discovers that defeating the creature responsible does not actually end anything. Instead, the entire nightmare resets.

And this is where Home Sweet Home gets seriously interesting.

There are two major outcomes. You can discover the route out of the dream and return to the real world, earning the legendary Astrologer’s Ring, or you can deliberately remain trapped inside the nightmare and unlock the secret Together Forever achievement/trophy.

The two routes are mutually exclusive during the same uninterrupted run, so a manual save is extremely important.

Spoiler warning: This walkthrough covers the entire Home Sweet Home quest, including the dream loops, Keeper of Nightmares boss fight, well escape route, church puzzle, memory sequence, Astrologer’s Ring, Flask of Quicksilver, and Together Forever secret ending.

How to Start Home Sweet Home in The Blood of Dawnwalker

Home Sweet Home begins at the top of Silts Tower in The Silts, in the southwestern part of Vale Sangora.

You can encounter the tower while following Who Pulls the Strings for Crake and the Manumits, although the location can also be discovered while exploring.

The quest is also connected to Xanthe’s Gargoyle Manufacture court activity.

Before you open the final door at the top of the tower, make a manual save.

That save can become incredibly valuable because escaping the dream prevents you from simply replaying the quest to obtain the secret ending later in the same run.

Reaching the top of Silts Tower

Enter the tower and climb through the upper floors while dealing with the enemies inside.

The route includes Xanthe’s Blood Guards and a stronger encounter before you reach the final room.

Once you’re at the top, interact with the door.

That’s when Home Sweet Home begins and Coen gets dragged into the bizarre dream version of his childhood home.

Opening the door also starts the dream sequence that forms the entire quest.

Coen loses his normal gear inside the dream

The first thing that can catch you off guard is how different Coen feels inside the nightmare.

Your normal inventory isn’t available.

Instead, Coen enters with basic equipment, making the combat much more dangerous than it might initially appear. You also can’t simply rely on his normal vampire form to heal or bulldoze through enemies.

This is basically the game telling you to forget your usual build for a while.

Use Focus Mode to find supplies

Keep Focus Mode active whenever you’re searching the environment.

Containers can contain food and other useful supplies, and food becomes particularly important because the fights can chew through Coen’s health.

You should also be careful with Witchcraft abilities that consume health.

Swordmastery abilities are especially useful during this section because they don’t consume Coen’s health in the same way some Witchcraft abilities do.

The basic survival strategy is simple:

  • Search containers with Focus Mode.
  • Stock up on food whenever possible.
  • Don’t waste health on unnecessary Witchcraft.
  • Use blocks and positioning rather than blindly attacking.
  • Avoid letting multiple enemies surround Coen.

The dream is supposed to feel uncomfortable and underpowered, so don’t assume something has gone wrong when your usual abilities and equipment aren’t available.

Complete the first dream cycle

The nightmare begins by recreating Coen’s family home.

His family is abducted, forcing Coen to chase after them.

Your first major objective is to rescue his mother.

More Townfall Puzzles: Two scans, two completely different machine settings, and one door code standing between you and the next objective. For more, check out our detailed walkthrough of the Silent Hill: Townfall X-Ray Puzzle and Skull/Chest Scan Settings.

Defeat the first group of specters

Follow the objective until you encounter the first group of supernatural enemies surrounding Coen’s mother.

Take these enemies seriously.

Because Coen is working with basic equipment, constantly attacking can leave you exposed. Blocking and positioning are much more important here than simply rushing into the group.

Use directional blocks to create openings and prevent enemies from surrounding you.

Once the specters are defeated, Coen’s mother is rescued.

Continue through the dream.

Rescue Coen’s siblings

The next section takes you farther toward the village, where another group of supernatural enemies is waiting.

These enemies are stronger than the initial group, so don’t charge directly into the middle of them.

Defeat the specters and continue through the area.

Once they’re down, Coen’s siblings are rescued.

This section is also extremely important because the area around the second enemy group eventually becomes the location of the escape route.

For now, though, don’t expect the well to immediately solve anything.

The first run is essentially teaching you how the nightmare works.

Defeat the Keeper of Nightmares

After rescuing the family members, Coen eventually faces the Keeper of Nightmares.

This flying creature is the main boss of the dream sequence and can be a serious problem when you’re stuck using the limited equipment provided by the nightmare.

The Keeper attacks from the air and can dive directly toward Coen.

How to handle the Keeper’s dive

The Keeper’s dive is one of its most dangerous attacks, but it can also create your best opening.

You can:

  • Dodge sideways as the creature dives.
  • Use a correctly timed directional block or parry.

A successful defensive maneuver can leave the Keeper vulnerable on the ground, giving you a much safer opportunity to attack.

Use Burning Blood

Burning Blood is another useful tool against the boss.

When used at the right moment, it can force the Keeper out of the air and onto the ground.

Once it’s grounded, the fight becomes considerably easier.

Don’t panic when the boss takes to the sky. The goal isn’t to constantly chase it around. Wait for the attack pattern, defend correctly, and punish the opening.

The dream resets after the boss

Eventually, you’ll defeat the Keeper of Nightmares.

You might expect that to be the end of Home Sweet Home.

It isn’t.

The dream resets.

Coen returns to the beginning, his family is abducted again, and you’re suddenly back at the start of the nightmare.

This is completely intentional.

You haven’t failed the quest.

The repeating dream is the central mechanic of Home Sweet Home.

And now you have an important choice to make.

Home Sweet Home has two different endings

Once the dream starts repeating, you can pursue one of two major outcomes.

Escape the dream

On a later repetition, inspect the well near the second group of enemies and follow the mysterious voice.

This sends Coen through the hidden memory route and eventually back into the real world.

Stay inside the dream

Ignore the well and continue completing the entire dream sequence.

After four complete dream cycles, the fifth cycle provides the opportunity to trigger the secret Together Forever ending.

Because escaping the dream prevents the quest from simply becoming replayable afterward, the safest approach is to keep a manual save before committing to the later loops.

How to escape the Home Sweet Home dream

The escape route becomes available during the second through fourth repetitions of the dream.

You don’t need to complete four full cycles to escape.

After the dream resets, start another run and repeat the rescue sequence.

Rescue Coen’s mother, defeat the next group of specters and rescue his siblings.

Then stop before continuing toward the Keeper of Nightmares.

Find the well

Return to the area around the second group of enemies.

Activate Focus Mode.

The well should become highlighted as an interaction point.

Interact with it.

A mysterious voice responds from inside, triggering the route that can finally break Coen out of the nightmare.

The exact dialogue choices during the conversation aren’t what determines the major outcome. The important action is interacting with the well and following what happens afterward.

Once you’ve triggered the well route, the dream changes completely.

Follow the mysterious voice through the new route

Coen is pulled into another section of the dream and regains access to his vampiric abilities.

This is a huge shift from the stripped-down combat earlier in the nightmare.

Use Shadowstep to navigate through the ravine and follow the new route.

Eventually, you’ll reach a red portal.

Enter it.

You’ll then arrive at a strange church where another puzzle is waiting.

Solve the church sermon puzzle

The church sequence is one of the easiest places to get stuck because the game doesn’t simply hand you the solution.

A priest is trying to remember his sermon, and you need to inspect the ghostly figures around the church in the correct order.

Credit: Rebel Wolves / YouTube (NN Gaming Shorts)

Use Focus Mode and interact with these three figures:

1. Alin

First, interact with Alin, who is inside the casket.

2. Esme

Next, interact with Esme, who is crying beside the casket.

3. Coen

Finally, interact with Coen, who is sitting alone on a bench.

The correct order is:

Alin โ†’ Esme โ†’ Coen

Get all three in the correct sequence and the church door opens.

This is the key puzzle solution to remember.

Continue through Coen’s memories

Leave the church through the newly opened door.

The dream changes again as Coen moves deeper into his memories.

The next section is less about combat and more about investigating the environment.

Follow the path and examine the relevant objects around the area.

Eventually, you’ll reach the section beneath a tree where Coen encounters important childhood memories.

Among the objects you’ll find are the skates.

Interact with them when prompted.

Then smash the skates on the stump.

This allows the memory sequence to continue.

Reach the river

After the memory sequence progresses, Coen needs to reach the river.

Follow the route toward the western side of the area.

Eventually, you’ll reach a cliff overlooking the lower section.

This is where Clawstride becomes important.

Use Clawstride to descend safely from the cliff and continue toward the river.

Follow the path through the final part of the dream until the next cutscene begins.

The nightmare is finally reaching its conclusion.

Wake up in the real world

After the final dream sequence involving Coen’s younger brother, the nightmare breaks.

Coen wakes up back in the real world at the bottom of Silts Tower.

That completes the main escape route for Home Sweet Home.

But don’t immediately leave.

There are still important rewards waiting for you.

Get the legendary Astrologer’s Ring

After returning to reality, search around the astrologer’s body.

Loot the body to obtain the legendary Astrologer’s Ring.

The ring is one of the biggest rewards for taking the escape route.

Its listed effects are:

  • +8% Witchcraft Ability Damage
  • +8% Activation Charge Restoration from Actions
  • -5% Witchcraft Ability Cooldown
  • +15% Passive Activation Charge Restoration

That makes it especially useful for Witchcraft-focused builds, improving ability damage, cooldowns and Activation Charge restoration.

The ring is tied to the escape route, so players who choose Together Forever without reloading won’t simply continue into this reward sequence.

Collect the Flask of Quicksilver before leaving

There’s another useful item you should pick up after completing the dream.

Return toward the upper section of the tower and enter Aurelius’ workshop.

Inside, you can collect the Flask of Quicksilver.

The flask is needed later for A Bulwark Against Darkness.

So your post-quest checklist should be:

  1. Wake up at the bottom of the tower.
  2. Loot the astrologer’s body.
  3. Collect the Astrologer’s Ring.
  4. Return toward the upper floors.
  5. Enter Aurelius’ workshop.
  6. Collect the Flask of Quicksilver.
  7. Continue with your next objective.

Doing this now saves you from having to make a separate trip back to the tower later.

How to unlock the Together Forever secret ending

Now for the route that turns Home Sweet Home from a strange dream quest into an actual nightmare.

To unlock Together Forever, you must deliberately ignore the escape route.

That means do not use the well.

Instead, complete the entire dream sequence again.

Each time, you need to:

  1. Rescue Coen’s mother.
  2. Defeat the second group of specters.
  3. Rescue his siblings.
  4. Defeat the Keeper of Nightmares.
  5. Allow the dream to reset.
  6. Repeat the entire sequence.

You need to complete four full dream cycles.

After the fourth completed cycle, the dream starts again.

At the beginning of the fifth cycle, speak to Coen’s family.

That triggers the secret ending.

What happens in Together Forever?

The secret ending is called Together Forever.

Instead of escaping the nightmare, Coen accepts the dream and chooses to remain with his family.

The game then awards the Together Forever achievement/trophy and proceeds to the credits.

The critical detail is that you need to complete four full dream cycles before the fifth-cycle family interaction becomes available.

So the rule is easy to remember:

Four complete loops โ†’ fifth-cycle family interaction โ†’ Together Forever.

Can you see both Home Sweet Home endings?

Yes, but the safest method is to use a manual save.

The two routes don’t simply sit beside each other as replayable choices. Once you’ve escaped the dream, you can’t casually restart Home Sweet Home to trigger the secret ending during the same run.

Here’s the safest strategy:

Step 1: Make a manual save

Save before committing to the later loops, ideally before completing the fourth Keeper of Nightmares encounter.

Step 2: Complete four full dream cycles

Ignore the well and continue through the nightmare each time.

Step 3: Trigger Together Forever

At the beginning of the fifth cycle, speak to the family and watch the secret ending.

Step 4: Reload your manual save

Return to the save you made before the final branch.

Step 5: Use the well

Complete the later-loop escape route instead.

Step 6: Finish the memory sequence

Follow:

Well โ†’ Shadowstep โ†’ Red Portal โ†’ Alin โ†’ Esme โ†’ Coen โ†’ Skates โ†’ River โ†’ Clawstride

Step 7: Collect your rewards

Loot the astrologer’s body for the Astrologer’s Ring, then return upstairs for the Flask of Quicksilver.

This approach lets you experience the secret ending while still completing the normal escape route and collecting its reward.

Home Sweet Home dream loop explained

Here’s the whole structure without the confusion:

CycleWhat to doResult
FirstRescue the mother and siblings, then defeat the Keeper of NightmaresDream resets
SecondRepeat the rescue sequence; use the well after the second enemy group to escape, or ignore it to continueEscape route available
ThirdContinue the dream or use the wellEscape route remains available
FourthComplete the full cycle if preparing for Together ForeverMake sure your manual save is available
FifthIgnore the well and speak to the family at the beginningTogether Forever
Later replaysUse Focus Mode at the well after the second enemy groupMemory route and escape

The biggest mistake is assuming that you need four loops to escape.

You don’t.

The four-loop requirement is specifically for the Together Forever secret ending.

What happens when the well isn’t available?

Don’t panic when the well doesn’t work during the first cycle.

That’s normal.

The escape interaction becomes available during later repetitions, specifically the second through fourth loops.

Once you’ve defeated the second group of enemies during one of those later runs, return to the area and use Focus Mode.

The well should be highlighted.

Interact with it before continuing toward the Keeper.

Waiting too long and completing another full loop isn’t necessarily a failure, but once you reach the fifth-cycle ending branch, you’re dealing with the secret-ending route rather than the normal escape route.

Home Sweet Home survival tips

The dream’s stripped-down equipment can make the quest feel much tougher than expected, especially when you’re accustomed to Coen’s normal build.

Use Focus Mode constantly

Focus Mode isn’t just useful for puzzles.

Use it to locate food containers and other supplies between fights.

Don’t waste Witchcraft

Some Witchcraft abilities consume health.

Save them for situations where they actually provide an advantage.

Rely on defensive timing

Directional blocks and parries can create openings without forcing you to burn through your health.

This becomes especially important when several specters are attacking at once.

Use Burning Blood against the Keeper

Burning Blood can force the flying Keeper of Nightmares toward the ground.

That turns a frustrating aerial battle into a much more manageable fight.

Learn the Keeper’s dive

When the boss dives toward Coen, dodge sideways or time a directional block/parry correctly.

A successful defensive move can leave the Keeper exposed.

Keep your manual save

This is the single most important practical tip for the quest.

Home Sweet Home gives you two dramatically different outcomes, and the game doesn’t simply let you replay the other branch after making your choice.

A manual save gives you control over which route you experience.

Home Sweet Home rewards and outcomes

The quest provides several important rewards and follow-up benefits depending on the route you choose.

Astrologer’s Ring

The legendary accessory is obtained by completing the escape route and looting the astrologer’s body.

Its listed effects are:

  • +8% Witchcraft Ability Damage
  • +8% Activation Charge Restoration from Actions
  • -5% Witchcraft Ability Cooldown
  • +15% Passive Activation Charge Restoration

Flask of Quicksilver

The Flask of Quicksilver can be collected from Aurelius’ workshop after the dream sequence.

It is needed later for A Bulwark Against Darkness.

Together Forever

Choosing to remain inside the dream after the required loops unlocks the Together Forever achievement/trophy and secret ending.

Gargoyle Manufacture

Completing Home Sweet Home also resolves the associated Gargoyle Manufacture court activity for Xanthe.

Final Home Sweet Home advice

Home Sweet Home looks like a straightforward rescue mission at first, but the repeating dream is the entire point. The first cycle teaches you the combat, the later cycles reveal the escape route, and deliberately ignoring that route leads to the secret ending.

For the normal escape, remember:

Well โ†’ Shadowstep โ†’ Red Portal โ†’ Alin โ†’ Esme โ†’ Coen โ†’ Skates โ†’ River โ†’ Clawstride.

For Together Forever, remember the opposite:

Ignore the well โ†’ complete four full dream cycles โ†’ speak to the family at the start of the fifth.

And before doing either one, make a manual save.

That single save gives you the safest way to experience both sides of one of The Blood of Dawnwalker’s strangest quests without accidentally losing access to the other outcome.
