Streamer Ed Matthews Jailed for 12 Weeks After Missing Probation Appointments: “The System Is F***d”

Kick streamer and online personality Ed Matthews, 24, has been sentenced to 12 weeks in prison after failing to comply with a community order linked to an assault during a livestreamed “paedophile hunter” confrontation. The sentence was handed down at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on August 19, 2026, after Matthews admitted failing without reasonable excuse to meet the requirements of the order.

But the latest prison sentence is not for a new assault conviction. Instead, it follows Matthews’ repeated failure to comply with the court requirements imposed after his original conviction, putting his controversial online career and future streaming plans under an even brighter spotlight.

Why Ed Matthews Was Sent to Prison After Missing Probation Appointments

Court records show that Matthews, of De Paul Way, Brentwood, Essex, missed planned probation appointments on June 16 and July 7, 2026. He also failed to provide acceptable documentary evidence explaining why he had been absent.

The court records state that Matthews had not been in contact with probation since January 2026 and had completed only a very limited number of his required unpaid-work hours.

Magistrates therefore revoked his community order and imposed a 12-week custodial sentence for the original offence. The court register said custody was justified because of the seriousness of the case and Matthews’ “wilful and persistent non-compliance.”

Matthews’ original community order was imposed at Willesden Magistrates’ Court in May 2025, following the June 9, 2024 incident. He had been convicted of assault by beating and of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

That original sentence included 150 hours of unpaid work, rehabilitation activity days and a £264 fine. After Matthews failed to meet the requirements, the order was revoked and the prison sentence followed.

The Livestreamed ‘Paedophile Hunter’ Sting Behind the Original Conviction

The case traces back to a filmed confrontation involving Matthews and a group of self-described “paedophile hunters” operating under names including Predator Shredders.

Matthews and others had organised online stings in which they posed as a 15-year-old girl to confront men they believed were attempting to contact children.

During the confrontation that led to Matthews’ conviction, he told the man involved to complete an extremely spicy Hot Chip challenge or face arrest by police. Footage then showed Matthews wrestling the man to the ground and holding him there while the confrontation was livestreamed to his audience.

There is another crucial legal detail. The man Matthews assaulted is due to stand trial in 2028 on charges of attempting to meet a child after grooming. Those allegations remain unproven, and he has not been convicted of those charges.

Ed Matthews Speaks From Chelmsford Prison

After being imprisoned, Matthews reportedly shared a recorded phone message with his followers on Instagram from Chelmsford prison.

“We’re in the jailhouse, we’re in Chelmsford, I’m on a peak bang-up right now. 23 hours a day because I’m high profile, all alone in my cell. But guess what? I’m grateful still, Something that I was preaching in Africa. I’ve got my health, I’ve got my vision, I’ve got Jesus Christ with me. I’m gonna go so much […] harder though when I come out, with these streams, I swear, boys, wait until I get out of here. I’m so motivated.”

The Sun separately reported a version of the recorded message in which Matthews said:

“I’m on a peak bang up right now, 23 hours a day because I’m high profile. All alone in my cell.”

He continued:

“But guess what I’m grateful still, something I was preaching in Africa. I love you man. I’m good.”

Matthews also said:

“I’m going to go so much f*ing harder when I come out with these streams.”**

And:

“I’m so motivated.”

He also criticised the justice system, stating:

“I’m getting treated like a fing murderer and that predator is walking free. The system is f***d.”

Matthews additionally told his followers to turn up to his next court date in September.

HSTikkyTokky Reacts as Matthews Promises to Return to Streaming

The sentence has also drawn a reaction from Matthews’ online circle. Streamer HSTikkyTokky, whose real name is Harrison Sullivan, publicly criticised the outcome and branded the sentencing “absolutely ridiculous.”

Matthews’ streamer pals have also shared their outrage over the outcome in online posts. Matthews and HSTikkyTokky are close friends and collaborators, and the pair co-founded the fitness brand HED Fitness.

Matthews built his profile through TikTok and YouTube before moving into livestreaming on Kick. His content includes IRL streams, fitness, influencer boxing and collaborations with other online personalities.

He also appeared in Louis Theroux’s Netflix documentary Inside the Manosphere alongside figures including HSTikkyTokky, Sneako and Myron Gaines. The documentary examined online personalities and communities associated with the manosphere.

For now, Matthews is serving the 12-week custodial sentence resulting from his community-order breach. His prison message suggests he plans to return to livestreaming after release, while the man involved in the original confrontation remains due to face trial in 2028.
