Running for roughly 1 minute and 35–55 seconds, the trailer introduces a dramatically transformed Los Angeles under the chilling tagline: “Welcome to a future we no longer control.”
With all eight episodes premiering globally on November 25, 2026, Blade Runner 2099 isn’t simply continuing the story—it is completely reversing the power structure that has defined the franchise for decades.

Set five decades after Blade Runner 2049, the series presents perhaps the biggest shift in franchise history. Somewhere between 2049 and 2099, a devastating replicant uprising and war changed everything. The humans didn’t prevail. Replicants now govern a reborn Los Angeles, while humanity has become the oppressed minority—the “skin jobs” of this new social order.
Showrunner Silka Luisa explained that the story asks profound questions:
“What happens when our time ends? What happens when we are no longer the dominant species?” She also described the series as exploring “what does it mean to be human in a world where humanity is no longer relevant?”
The official synopsis introduces the central mystery:
Fifty years after the events of Blade Runner 2049, Los Angeles has been reborn, just not by humanity. Cora, a fugitive in a final bid to stop running, takes on one last identity: a Blade Runner. Forced to partner with Olwen, a Replicant days from dying, she hunts down a runaway hiding a truth that could collapse their fragile city.
An alternate official description suggests their investigation uncovers a conspiracy stretching back to the city’s “darkest original sins.”

Visually, Blade Runner 2099 deliberately breaks from franchise tradition. Luisa calls the aesthetic “sunshine noir.” Instead of endless rain and neon-lit nights, audiences will see hotter, brighter coastal Los Angeles, including Santa Monica-inspired locations, daylight scenes, sunsets, and desert-like landscapes. Hunter Schafer plays Cora, a human fugitive who has spent her entire life running from Blade Runners. In one final attempt to escape, she assumes the identity of a Blade Runner.
