Thorium is a valuable resource in Hytale, essential for crafting stronger weapons, armor, and advanced workstations. Unlike iron or copper, finding and collecting Thorium requires exploration and preparation. If you want to upgrade your gear and craft powerful items, knowing where and how to get Thorium is crucial.

Where to Find Thorium

Thorium primarily spawns in the Howling Sands biome, a desert zone characterized by arid terrain, high cliffs, and caves. The ore appears as green, rectangular nodes protruding from the ground, walls, or ceilings in caves. While some nodes can appear on mountain tops or cliff edges, caves are typically the most reliable place to mine.

When exploring the Howling Sands, look for small circular cave entrances on your map or in the environment. You can dig your own tunnels if necessary, but scouting natural entrances usually speeds up the search.

For players seeking alternative locations, volcanic islands sometimes contain Thorium, though these areas host tougher enemies and are less consistent for farming.

How to Mine Thorium

Any pickaxe, including crude or copper tiers, can mine Thorium. Once you locate a node, equip your pickaxe and break it to collect Thorium Ore. You do not need a special tool or higher-tier pickaxe to gather this resource.

While exploring caves or high-altitude areas, stay prepared for hostile mobs that spawn in these zones. Consider equipping armor and stockpiling healing items to minimize risk. For safer collection, players using creative mode can disable enemy attacks temporarily to locate ores, then switch back to exploration mode to gather them legitimately.

Converting Thorium Ore into Ingots

Once you have collected Thorium Ore, smelt it in a furnace to produce Thorium Ingots. Smelting does not require a special furnace tier or fuel; wood or coal works perfectly. These ingots are the core material for crafting advanced tools, weapons, and armor.

Uses for Thorium in Hytale

Thorium Ingots are integral for late-game crafting. Here are some of the primary uses:

  • Thorium Shield: 5 Thorium Ingots
  • Thorium Pickaxe: 6 Thorium Ingots
  • Thorium Cuirass: 20 Thorium Ingots
  • Tier 2 Furnace: 5 Thorium Ingots
  • Arcanist’s Workbench: 10 Thorium Ingots
  • Tier 2 Workbench: 30 Thorium Ingots

To craft Thorium weapons, armor, or station upgrades, make sure your blacksmith’s anvil, armorer’s workbench, and main workbench are upgraded to Tier 2. Without these upgrades, crafting with Thorium will not be possible.

Tips for Efficient Thorium Farming

  1. Prepare Your Gear: Equip armor and weapons to handle cave enemies and high-altitude hazards.
  2. Scout Caves First: Identify clusters of cave entrances on your map before committing to exploration.
  3. Use Vertical Terrain: Thorium nodes are often found on cliff edges and mountain tops, so don’t ignore elevated terrain.
  4. Stockpile Ore: Collect extra Thorium Ore to prepare for multiple crafting projects at once.
  5. Smelt in Bulk: Use furnaces efficiently to convert large amounts of ore into ingots quickly.

Exploring Howling Sands thoroughly ensures a steady supply of Thorium. With careful preparation and knowledge of ore locations, you can maximize your resource collection and craft high-level gear to tackle Hytale’s challenges.
