Finding treasure in Terraria often depends on what you can see. The Spelunker Potion changes what you see underground. It highlights valuable objects around you and turns hidden finds into clear targets.

If you want more ores, Life Crystals, or chests, this potion gives you a real advantage. This guide shows exactly how you can get it and how to make the most of it.

What the Spelunker Potion Does

The Spelunker Potion grants the Spelunker buff for 5 minutes. During that time, valuable nearby objects glow with a yellow tint.

The buff highlights:

  • Ores
  • Gems
  • Pots
  • Herbs
  • Dye plants
  • Chests
  • Life Crystals
  • Life Fruit
  • Statues
  • Paintings

This effect helps you spot resources that would otherwise blend into the background.

How to Craft a Spelunker Potion

Crafting gives you the most reliable way to get Spelunker Potions.

Ingredients

You need:

  • Bottled Water
  • Blinkroot
  • Moonglow
  • Gold Ore or Platinum Ore

Crafting Station

You can use either of these to craft the potion:

  • A Placed Bottle
  • An Alchemy Table

Combine the ingredients at one of these stations and you get a Spelunker Potion.

Other Ways to Obtain It

Crafting is not your only option. You can also find Spelunker Potions in:

  • Pots
  • Chests
  • Crates

Slimes also have a small chance to drop one as a bonus drop.

These methods depend on luck, but they can supply extra potions during normal exploration.

How the Highlighting Works

Treasures glow with a yellow tint. This tint can slightly change how ores look. For example, Cobalt can appear turquoise and Orichalcum can look red.

Some ores do not change under the effect:

  • Crimtane
  • Meteorite
  • Obsidian
  • Hellstone

Meteorite and Crimtane still give off their own light. The sparkling effect appears strongest under the Retro lighting setting.

Gameplay Tips for Using Spelunker Potions

Use a Metal Detector First

The Metal Detector tells you if valuable treasure exists nearby. This helps you decide when to drink a potion instead of wasting one.

High Resolution Helps

High-resolution displays make glowing treasures easier to notice.

Potion vs Glowstick

A Spelunker Glowstick shows general treasure locations, but the potion pinpoints exact spots on your screen. The potion also lets you mine and act freely while it works.

When to Use It

Spelunker Potions stay useful throughout the entire game. They help you locate valuable objects regardless of visibility. They also help greatly in Hardmode when rarer ores matter more.

If you plan a mining trip, bringing one or two can change how much you bring back.
