SPOILER WARNING: This guide contains story spoilers for the Care Center section of Resident Evil Requiem. Read on only if you have already escaped the Care Center basement.

If you have just escaped the Care Center basement and spotted a disembodied hand sitting on the floor near the elevator, you are not imagining things. The Severed Hand is a collectible item in Resident Evil Requiem that becomes available to pick up after you escape the basement via the elevator. It belongs to The Girl, the relentless stalker who has been chasing Grace through the Care Center, and it was severed when the elevator came down.

Its in-game description reads simply: “It’s still warm.”

Naturally, that raises the question of what on earth you are supposed to do with it. It does not look like a weapon. It does not slot into any obvious mechanism. However, it turns out the Severed Hand connects directly to one of the most elaborate and community-wide mysteries in the entire game, known as The Final Puzzle.

Where To Find The Severed Hand in Resident Evil Requiem

The Severed Hand appears on the floor in front of the elevator after you escape the Care Center basement. You pick it up by interacting with it directly at that location. It will not be available before this point in the game.

Important timing note: You only have a limited window to use the Severed Hand while playing as Grace. Once you unlock the Central Hall door using all three Quartz pieces and leave the Care Center, the opportunity passes. Make sure you use it before heading through that exit.

How To Use The Severed Hand

The Severed Hand connects to the Laser Microscope, also referred to as the Blood Analysis Machine, the same type of device you have been using throughout the Care Center to analyse blood specimens and unlock crafting recipes.

There are two locations where you can analyse the Severed Hand:

  • The Blood Lab in the East Wing
  • The Office on the second floor of the West Wing

Take the Severed Hand to either machine and interact with it. You will then need to solve a small atom-style minigame to complete the analysis. The confirmed three-step solution for the analysis puzzle is:

  1. Select the middle block
  2. Select the far right block
  3. Select the far left block

Complete those steps in that order and the analysis will finish successfully.

What Does Analysing The Severed Hand Give You?

Unlike the other Blood Specimen puzzles, analysing the Severed Hand does not reward you with a crafting diagram. Instead, it gives you a cryptic message and a long code string.

The message reads: “Let’s play.”

The code that follows is: GGC AAG AUA ACG UGU CAU

This is where things get genuinely fascinating. The code is an mRNA sequence, a chain of RNA codons. Each set of three letters represents an amino acid, and the confirmed amino acid breakdown is as follows:

CodonAmino Acid
GGCGlycine
AAGLysine
AUAIsoleucine
ACGThreonine
UGUCysteine
CAUHistidine

Taking the first letter of each amino acid in order spells out a single word: GLITCH.

What Happens After You Get The Code?

Once you have successfully analysed the Severed Hand, a Puzzle Box you previously opened in the Lead Researcher’s Office becomes interactive again. This is the same box where you retrieved the Sun Quartz earlier in the game. You can now input a new code into it using the Sun, Star, and Moon buttons.

The confirmed input sequence for this step is:

Sun, Sun, Star, Sun, Moon, Star, Sun, Moon, Sun, Moon, Star, Moon

When you enter this sequence correctly, you will hear the sound of a child giggling. This is the confirmed reaction the game gives you upon entering the correct code.

However, this is where the confirmed information ends. The giggle triggers something, but the full solution and outcome of The Final Puzzle challenge has not yet been officially solved or confirmed as of the time this guide was published.

What Is The Final Puzzle?

The Final Puzzle is a post-game challenge visible in Resident Evil Requiem’s challenge menu. It is worth 20,000 CP upon completion and carries the description: “Let the sweet pair hear the voice.”

The Severed Hand analysis and the Lead Researcher’s Office Puzzle Box code are confirmed steps within this larger challenge. However, The Final Puzzle appears to involve multiple additional clues spread across the entire game, many of which the community is still actively working through.

Confirmed clues and community findings so far:

  • Analysing the Severed Hand produces the mRNA code GGC AAG AUA ACG UGU CAU, which translates to the word GLITCH
  • Entering the sequence Sun, Sun, Star, Sun, Moon, Star, Sun, Moon, Sun, Moon, Star, Moon into the Lead Researcher’s Office Puzzle Box triggers a child’s giggle
  • An Hourglass found in the room leading to the underground lab in Rhodes Hill, when examined, reveals the value U = 380,000, which corresponds to the distance in kilometres from the Earth to the Moon
  • A note found elsewhere in the game contains the value C = 4.2 light years, which corresponds to the distance to the nearest star
  • Another label on the side of one of the Laser Microscopes reads G = 150,000,000, which corresponds to the distance in kilometres from the Earth to the Sun
  • A doll found near Kendo’s shop, accessible after the Tyrant encounter, instructs you to “just ignore A”
  • A message on a wall in Raccoon City reads “Can you hear it too?”, which the community believes is connected
  • The challenge description references “the sweet pair”, which some community members believe refers to the two singing zombies found in the Care Center, specifically the ones in the Bar and Lounge and the Conference Room

What remains unconfirmed:

  • The complete sequence of steps required to trigger the 20,000 CP challenge completion
  • Whether the child giggle represents the end of the puzzle or a midpoint
  • Whether Emily needs to be present when the Puzzle Box code is entered, though some community members have reported that a growl occurs when carrying Emily through specific areas after entering the code
  • The full significance of the GLITCH word derived from the amino acid chain

Should You Keep The Severed Hand?

Yes, at least until you have completed the analysis. The Severed Hand receives a checkmark in your inventory after you escape the Care Center basement via the elevator, which typically indicates an item no longer has a purpose. However, the analysis step confirms it still has use before you leave the Care Center entirely.

Once you have analysed it and entered the Lead Researcher’s Office Puzzle Box code, the hand can be set aside. It does not appear to have any further confirmed use beyond those steps, though community investigation into The Final Puzzle continues.
