In Pokémon Pokopia, you will be picking up items constantly, from furniture and crafting materials to tools and collectibles. It does not take long before Ditto’s bag starts feeling a little cramped, and the default storage space simply will not cut it for very long. Fortunately, the game gives you several ways to expand your carrying capacity and manage your items more efficiently. Here is a full breakdown of every storage upgrade available in Pokémon Pokopia and how to make the most of them.
How to Expand Your Bag in Pokémon Pokopia
You can expand your bag by purchasing Packing Tips from the PC Shop at any Pokémon Center. New Packing Tips unlock gradually as you progress through the game and discover new areas.
| Upgrade | Cost | Effect | When It Unlocks |
| Handy Bag | 500 Coins | Adds 10 quick-access slots; displays bag contents on screen | Available from the start |
| Packing Tips: Rookie | 300 Coins | Increases carrying capacity by 10 items | Available from the start |
| Packing Tips: Intermediate | 500 Coins | Increases carrying capacity by 30 items | Bleak Beach, Environment Level 2 |
| Packing Tips: Superior | 1,000 Coins | Increases carrying capacity by 30 items | Rocky Ridges, Environment Level 2 |
| Packing Tips: Expert | 1,200 Coins | Increases carrying capacity further | Sparkling Skylands, Environment Level 2 |
You access the shop through the Pokémon Center PC. If you are short on Coins, completing one of that area’s easier Challenges is the quickest way to top up your balance before making a purchase.
The Handy Bag Explained
The Handy Bag is available to purchase right from the start of the game for 500 Coins and is well worth picking up early. It adds 10 extra storage slots at the bottom of your bag, but its real value is the quick-access feature.

By holding down the Right Analogue Stick while looking at your bag, you can bring the Handy Bag up on screen during gameplay. This lets you access any item stored inside it without opening the full bag menu, which is particularly useful when you are decorating an area or building a structure and need to switch between items quickly.

However, it is worth knowing that activating the Handy Bag on screen changes how you switch moves. Rather than using the D-Pad directly, you will need to hold down the L button and select the move you want from there. If you find this uncomfortable, simply hold the Right Analogue Stick again while in your bag to turn the on-screen display off and revert the controls.
Storage Boxes Explained
Even with a fully upgraded bag, you will still collect more items than you can carry. That is where Storage Boxes come in. These let you store items separately from your bag, and there are two types available to craft.
| Storage Box | Crafting Cost | Capacity |
| Storage Box | 1 Lumber | 20 items |
| Big Storage Box | 3 Pokémetal | 60 items |
The Big Storage Box unlocks after registering 30 Pokémon in your Pokédex, which also completes the “Find New Pokémon! #5” Challenge. Pokémetal can be found early on inside golden Pokéballs on the ground or via the daily shop at the PC and Pokémon Center, though it becomes easier to obtain in larger quantities later in the game.
Other storage furniture like wall cabinets, office cabinets, and even refrigerators can also hold items, though they are limited to 20 items each, making them better suited as decorative options rather than primary storage solutions.
One important tip: always place your Storage Box next to a Workbench. Doing so allows the Workbench to automatically pull materials from the Storage Box when crafting, which cuts down significantly on the time you spend managing your inventory.
Pokémon with the Storage Specialty
Another storage option comes from Pokémon with the Storage Specialty, such as Gulpin. You can speak to these Pokémon and select “I wanna check my storage” to access their individual storage space. Each Storage Specialty Pokémon can hold at least 20 items, making them the equivalent of a basic Storage Box.
The main limitation is that these Pokémon are tied to the biome they live in and can wander around within it. If you need to find them quickly, use Honey to call them back to their habitat. You can also check which Storage Pokémon you have already met by filtering for the Storage Specialty in your Pokédex.
Tips for Managing Your Inventory
Running a tighter inventory takes a little planning, but these habits will make a big difference over time:
- Buy the Rookie Packing Tip immediately, as it is cheap and available from the very start
- Purchase the Handy Bag early for the quick-access feature alone, especially if you spend a lot of time building and decorating
- Place Storage Boxes next to Workbenches so crafting pulls from them automatically
- Drop items temporarily while sorting your bag, as items left on the ground remain in the world for an extended period before disappearing
- Give items to a Storage Specialty Pokémon like Gulpin if you are out in the field and need to offload quickly
- Remember that most items can be collected multiple times, so do not be too precious about discarding duplicates when space is tight
