How to Get a Peace Candle in Terraria

When monsters crowd your builds or distract you during exploration, this small light gives you breathing room. You do not chase it through rare chests or boss drops. You craft it yourself once you meet one key condition.

This guide walks you through exactly how to get a Peace Candle, what it does, and how to use it well.

What a Peace Candle Actually Does

A Peace Candle reduces both enemy and critter spawn rates in its area and gives off a small amount of light. When active, it grants the Peace Candle buff to nearby players.

The buff provides two concrete effects:

  • 23% lower spawn rate in the area
  • 30% lower maximum number of on screen enemies

The effect applies in two situations:

  • You stand within a 170 by 125 tile rectangle centered on a placed Peace Candle
  • You hold a Peace Candle in your selected hotbar slot

If you only keep it in your inventory, you gain no effect.

Multiple Peace Candles do not stack. One active candle already gives the full benefit.

The Key Requirement Before Crafting

You need a Pink Torch to craft a Peace Candle. That means you must defeat Pinky at least once, since Pink Torches tie to Pinky. Without that step, you cannot craft the candle.

Once you secure a Pink Torch, the rest uses basic materials.

Peace Candle Crafting Recipe

You craft a Peace Candle at a Work Bench using one of the following:

Option 1

  • 2 Gold Bars
  • 1 Pink Torch

Option 2

  • 2 Platinum Bars
  • 1 Pink Torch

Both recipes produce the same result. Choose based on which ore your world provides.

A Peace Candle fits as a 1 by 1 tile furniture item. You can place it on:

  • Platforms
  • Flat furniture such as Work Benches and Tables

You can toggle it on or off:

  • Press the Open or Activate button to switch it off or on
  • Connect it to wiring to toggle it remotely

A turned off Peace Candle gives no buff.

You can also use it underwater, which helps in certain builds or farms.

Interaction With Other Spawn Effects

Understanding how the Peace Candle interacts with other mechanics helps you plan better.

With Water Candles
Water Candles increase spawn rates. If both a Peace Candle and a Water Candle stay active, their effects cancel out. You end up with normal spawn rates.

In Space, the Peace Candle cannot fully counter a Water Candle because Space greatly boosts the Water Candle effect.

With Other Buffs
The Peace Candle buff stacks with:

  • Happy! buff from Sunflowers
  • Calm buff from Calming Potions

Together, they can reduce enemy spawn rate by about 67%.

Tips for Smart Use

For building and wiring
Place Peace Candles around your build area to reduce interruptions from enemies. You get a calmer workspace and fewer sudden attacks.

For farming bait and critters
Avoid Peace Candles when you want critters. They reduce critter spawns just like enemy spawns.

For controlled arenas
Use a Peace Candle when you want fewer random enemies interfering with a specific event or setup. Toggle it off when you need higher spawn activity again.
