How to Craft a Shellphone in Terraria

Published on

in

A side-by-side comparison of the Shellphone item sprite and the in-game information tooltip in Terraria.

The Shellphone stands as one of Terrariaโ€™s most elaborate and rewarding tools. It combines the Cell Phone, Magic Conch, and Demon Conch into a single item that informs you and moves you across the world. You read time and weather, track information, and teleport to key locations with one tool in your inventory.

Its power comes from its long crafting tree. Each component asks you to explore, fish, fight, and trade. This guide walks you through that path with clarity so you always know what comes next.

What the Shellphone Does

You can cycle through four teleport destinations:

  • World spawn
  • Ocean
  • Underworld
  • Your bed spawn point

It also displays the same information as the Cell Phone. It serves as a post Skeletron informational tool and ranks among the most complex crafting trees in Terraria.

You craft it at a Tinkerer’s Workshop.

Final recipe:

Shellphone

  • Cell Phone
  • Magic Conch
  • Demon Conch
  • Tinkerer’s Workshop

Everything leads to these three items, especially the Cell Phone, which carries most of the work.

The Crafting Path Overview

Think of the Shellphone as three layers:

  1. Build the PDA
  2. Turn the PDA into a Cell Phone
  3. Combine with both Conches

Each layer uses distinct components.

Step 1: Craft the PDA

The PDA requires four items:

  • GPS
  • Fish Finder
  • Goblin Tech
  • R.E.K. 3000

You combine them at the Tinkerer’s Workshop.

GPS

Recipe at Tinkerer’s Workshop:

  • Gold or Platinum Watch
  • Depth Meter
  • Compass

Gold or Platinum Watch
You need 40 Gold or Platinum Ore and 3 Iron or Lead Ore. Smelt them into bars. Use iron or lead for a chain. Craft the watch at a table and chair. This watch shows time to the nearest second or in game minute.

Depth Meter
Dropped by Cave Bats, Ice Bats, Spore Bats, Jungle Bats, Giant Bats, Salamanders, Giant Shelly, and Crawdads. Bat Statues help farming.

Compass
Dropped by Mother Slime, Piranha, Snow Flinx, Undead Viking, Armored Viking, and also Salamander, Giant Shelly, and Crawdad. Piranha Statues help farming.

Fish Finder

Combine at Tinkerer’s Workshop:

  • Fisherman’s Pocket Guide
  • Weather Radio
  • Sextant

All three come from the Angler as quest rewards. Each starts at a 1 in 30 chance. Chances increase as you complete more quests.

Important details:

  • Completing a quest with a component in your inventory prevents duplicates
  • Duplicates can go into Shimmer to change into others
  • Quests reset at 4:30 AM

Beds, Enchanted Sundial, and Journey Mode help speed time between quests.

R.E.K. 3000

Combine at Tinkerer’s Workshop:

  • Tally Counter
  • Lifeform Analyzer
  • Radar

Tally Counter
Dropped by pre Hardmode Dungeon enemies except Dungeon Slimes and traps. Defeat Skeletron to access the Dungeon.

Lifeform Analyzer
Sometimes sold by the Traveling Merchant.

Radar
Found in Wooden Chests, Wooden Crates, Pearlwood Crates, or sold by the Skeleton Merchant during a Waxing Gibbous.

Goblin Tech

Combine at Tinkerer’s Workshop:

  • Metal Detector
  • Stopwatch
  • DPS Meter

Metal Detector
Dropped by Nymphs. It has a 50 percent drop chance, or 100 percent in Expert. A Lifeform Analyzer and Hunter Potions help track Nymphs. Long tunnels in Ice biome help spawn them.

Stopwatch and DPS Meter
Both sometimes sold by the Traveling Merchant. He can sell both at once.

Step 2: Craft the Cell Phone

At the Tinkerer’s Workshop:

  • PDA
  • Magic Mirror or Ice Mirror

Magic Mirror
Found in Gold Chests. You can also craft it with 32 Gold or Platinum Ore, 20 Sand, and 3 Diamonds. Smelt ores into bars and sand into glass before crafting.

Ice Mirror
Found as secondary loot in Ice Chests.

The Cell Phone no longer works as an accessory, but it keeps its information functions.

Step 3: Gather the Conches

You now need two teleportation items.

Magic Conch
Found in Sandstone Chests, Oasis Crates, and Mirage Crates.

Demon Conch
Obtained by fishing in lava.

Step 4: Craft the Shellphone

At the Tinkerer’s Workshop combine:

  • Cell Phone
  • Magic Conch
  • Demon Conch

You now hold the Shellphone.

Useful Farming Tips

Several strategies speed up the process.

  • Use Enchanted Sundial or sleep in a Bed to advance time
  • Journey Mode allows time control
  • Place Water Candles and use Battle Potions to increase spawn rates
  • Increase luck with correct torches, a Gnome, Ladybugs, and Luck Potions
  • Fish often to gain potion materials and crates
  • Explore caves frequently since many drops come from underground enemies
  • Keep Angler items in your inventory to avoid duplicates

For specific farms:

  • Use Bat Statues for Depth Meter
  • Use Piranha Statues for Compass
  • Hunt Dungeon enemies for Tally Counter
  • Run tunnels in Ice biome to find Nymphs
