Breeding forms the backbone of Mewgenics’ long-term strategy. Every adventure ends with cats retiring to your shack, where they’ll attempt to “get it on” and produce the next generation of warriors. Understanding how breeding works transforms random kitten production into a calculated eugenics program that’ll carry you through the toughest encounters.
Here’s everything you need to know about creating perfect kittens in Mewgenics.
How Breeding Works in Mewgenics
Breeding happens automatically when you end the day. Cats in the same room attempt to mate, and if successful, they’ll produce one to two kittens by the next morning.
Important timing detail: Kittens can’t adventure until their second day of life. Factor this into your planning when you need fresh squads immediately.
Breeding isn’t guaranteed every night. Sometimes nothing happens. Other times, cats fight instead of breeding, potentially causing injuries or death depending on room stats.
What Determines Breeding Success
Comfort stat directly affects breeding frequency. High Comfort encourages cats to mate more often, while low Comfort causes fighting instead.
Libido (revealed after donating 10 kittens to Tink) determines individual cats’ breeding frequency. Cats with high Libido mate more often than those with average or low values.
Breeding pairs form over time. Cats that successfully mate multiple times develop relationships and become “in love,” increasing their chances of breeding together again.
Understanding House Stats for Breeding

Each room in your shack has distinct stats determined by furniture placement and cleanliness. These stats dramatically affect kitten quality:
The Five Critical House Stats
Comfort – Affects breeding frequency vs. fighting
- High Comfort = more breeding
- Low Comfort = more cat fights
- Each cat in a room reduces Comfort by -1
- Each poop pile reduces Comfort by -1
Stimulation – Affects kitten quality (MOST IMPORTANT)
- High Stimulation ensures kittens inherit the higher stat value between parents
- Example: Father has 2 Constitution, Mother has 8 Constitution → Kitten gets 8 Constitution with high Stimulation
- Also increases chances of inheriting valuable abilities from parents
Health – Affects disease spread and lifespan
- Low Health causes disease spread and sudden elderly cat death
- High Health (10+) can automatically cure injuries and extend lifespans
- Can cure defects over time
Mutation – Affects random mutation chances
- High Mutation increases chances for positive stat boosts
- Also increases chances for physical deformities
- Most mutations grant +2 to one stat and -1 to another
Appeal – Affects stray cat quality (applies to entire house)
- High Appeal brings strays with better stats and skills
- Low Appeal brings mediocre strays
- The only stat that affects the whole house, not individual rooms
How Kittens Inherit Stats in Mewgenics

This is where breeding gets technical. Understanding inheritance prevents wasting generations on cats with hidden weaknesses.
Base Stats vs. Bonus Stats
Kittens inherit base stats only – not bonuses from items, injuries, or temporary effects.
Critical distinction: A cat showing 7 in a stat might actually have a base of 5 (+2 from items). Their kitten inherits the base 5, not the displayed 7.
After unlocking Tink’s information rewards (10 kittens donated), you’ll see both bonus stats (left) and base stats (right) clearly displayed. This visibility is essential for breeding decisions.
Stat Inheritance Example
Father’s base stats: 5 STR, 5 DEX, 5 CON, 5 INT, 5 SPD, 5 CHA, 5 LCK
Mother’s base stats: 7 STR, 4 DEX, 5 CON, 5 INT, 7 SPD, 4 CHA, 5 LCK
With high Stimulation, kitten gets: 7 STR, 5 DEX, 5 CON, 5 INT, 7 SPD, 5 CHA, 5 LCK (always choosing the higher parent value)
If the father has a mutation granting +2 DEX and -1 CON, and the kitten inherits that mutation, final stats become: 7 STR, 7 DEX, 4 CON, 5 INT, 7 SPD, 5 CHA, 5 LCK
Mutations, Disorders & Diseases
Kittens can inherit mutations, disorders, and diseases from parents independently of base stat considerations.
Mutations mostly grant net positive effects (+2 to one stat, -1 to another). A select few offer purely positive boosts – these are breeding gold. Continue propagating them across generations.
Disorders are innate conditions that pass to offspring. Unlike diseases, they’re permanent traits.
Diseases differ from disorders because some are contagious. Infected cats can spread illness throughout your shack. Cure methods include:
- High Health stat (10+) in their room
- Random recovery chance at the end of battles
- Event outcomes during adventures
Move contagious cats outside the house, donate them to NPCs, or dismiss them entirely to prevent outbreaks.
Sexuality, Gender & Libido in Mewgenics
After donating 10 kittens to Tink, you unlock the “Gaydar” feature revealing sexual orientation.
The Three Genders
Male, Female, and ? (gender-fluid “ditto” cats)
Ditto cats can fulfill either male or female roles during breeding. They can mate with males one day, females the next, and even breed with other ditto cats or gay/bisexual cats.
Sexual Orientations
Heterosexual – Breeds with opposite sex only
Gay/Lesbian – Attempts mating with same sex (no offspring result)
Bisexual – Mates with either sex
Important synergy: Ditto cats allow gay cats to pass on traits by producing offspring, since dittos adapt to fulfill the needed gender role.
Avoiding Inbreeding Disasters
Inbreeding produces uglier cats with debilitating birth defects that lower stats. This happens even with distantly related cats.
Preventing Inbreeding
Bring in daily strays – Strays aren’t related to anyone, making them safe breeding partners
Check family trees – After unlocking Tink’s 10-kitten reward, examine lineages before pairing cats
Assign icons – Mark cats from specific genealogical branches with symbols. Never breed cats sharing the same icon
Separate related cats – Put distant relatives in different rooms to prevent accidental mating
Advanced Breeding Strategy: The Fight Club
Cats fight when Comfort drops too low or when Aggression runs high. Fighting causes injuries or death, but winners receive random stat boosts as rewards.
Create a dedicated “fight club” room:
- Remove Comfort-boosting furniture
- Place cats with mediocre stats inside
- Let them battle each other
- Survivors emerge with boosted stats ready for adventures
This brutal tactic transforms weak cats into viable adventurers through natural selection.
Frequently Asked Questions
Breeding happens automatically when you end the day. Cats in the same room attempt to mate based on Comfort stat, Libido levels, and sexual compatibility. Successful pairings produce 1-2 kittens the next morning.
Kittens inherit base stats from parents (not bonus stats from items/injuries). With high Stimulation, kittens get the higher value between both parents for each stat. Mutations, disorders, and abilities inherit independently.
Bring in daily strays (unrelated to your clowder), check family trees after unlocking Tink’s rewards, assign icons to mark genealogical branches, and separate related cats into different rooms.
Stimulation is the most important breeding stat. High Stimulation ensures kittens inherit the higher stat value between parents and increases chances of inheriting valuable abilities from adventuring cats.
Gay cats attempt mating with the same sex but produce no offspring. However, ditto cats (gender-fluid “?” cats) can breed with gay cats since dittos fulfill either gender role, allowing gay cats to pass on traits.
