Winter reaches Topside in ARC Raiders with the Cold Snap update, a seasonal shift that reshapes how players read terrain, track enemies, and plan extractions. Embark Studios positions this update as the final major content drop of 2025, and it focuses less on raw expansion and more on environmental pressure and player behavior.

Cold Snap launches on December 16, 2025 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Snowfall as a Gameplay System

Cold Snap introduces a snow map condition rather than a new location. Existing zones such as Blue Gate and Buried City can now roll into active snowfall. Snow does more than change the atmosphere.

Raiders leave visible footprints as they move, turning traversal into a risk. Careless sprinting can expose routes, recent combat, or ambush positions. Skilled players can mislead pursuers by doubling back or planting false trails. The environment now records player decisions in real time.

Visibility drops during heavier snowfall, which increases tension during extractions and close range encounters. Long sightlines lose reliability, and sound awareness becomes more valuable.

Embark has not confirmed whether snowfall remains permanent or rotates like night raids and electromagnetic storms, but its design suggests a recurring condition rather than a one off event.

Flickering Flames Community Event

Cold Snap also adds the Flickering Flames event, a limited time progression track similar in structure to Breaking New Ground from the North Line update. Players complete objectives to earn cosmetic items and premium currency.

The winter theme hints at heat management mechanics, though Embark has not detailed them fully. The event encourages regular play during the holiday window without demanding ranked competition.

A New Raider Deck Enters the Pool

The update introduces a new Raider Deck, expected to require premium currency. This deck follows the established format with cosmetic rewards, item bundles, and currency returns over time.

For players who enjoy structured progression outside ranked resets, the Raider Deck remains the clearest long-term incentive during Cold Snap.

Release Timing and Update Cadence

Cold Snap goes live globally on December 16, with regional rollout aligned to early morning in North America and afternoon to evening in Europe and Asia. Embark has confirmed this update as the final major patch of the year, followed by a slower cadence during the studio’s holiday break.
