After years of anticipation since its reveal as Project 007 back in 2020, the new James Bond game finally has a launch date. Here is everything you need to know about 007 First Light, including when it releases, which platforms get it first, and why Switch 2 owners will need to wait a little longer.
What is 007 First Light?
007 First Light is a narrative action-adventure game developed and published by IO Interactive, the Danish studio behind the Hitman series, and runs on IO’s proprietary Glacier engine. It tells an original Bond origin story, following a young James Bond as he works to earn his 00 status for the first time.
Early previews from major outlets have been broadly positive, with critics praising its strong spy fantasy tone and Hitman-style gameplay approach.
007 First Light Release Date
007 First Light launches on May 27, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Players who pre-order digitally receive 24 hours of early access, meaning they can jump in from May 26, 2026.
The game was originally announced for March 27, 2026, however IO Interactive delayed it in December 2025 to allow more time to polish the final build. As IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak explained at the time, the decision came down to ensuring the game met the quality players deserve on day one.

The game does not have a version planned for PS4, Xbox One, or the original Nintendo Switch.
Why Is the Nintendo Switch 2 Version Delayed?
IO Interactive confirmed in April 2026 that the Switch 2 version of 007 First Light would not launch alongside the other platforms. The studio stated the delay exists to ensure the game delivers the best possible experience on the platform. A release window of later this summer is currently the only detail available, with no specific date confirmed yet.
This follows a pattern seen with other major titles on Switch 2. Borderlands 4 received a similar delay on the platform, as did Elden Ring on Switch 2, though both eventually made it to the console. However, not every third-party title has faced this issue. Cronos: The New Dawn, Resident Evil Requiem, and the upcoming Pragmata all launched day and date on Switch 2, so the platform is clearly capable of handling major releases on time.
How Much Does 007 First Light Cost?
The standard edition of 007 First Light is priced at $69.99 globally on current-gen platforms. You can purchase 007 First Light via Steam, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation Store, and Xbox Store. The Nintendo Switch 2 version is not yet available to pre-order.
On Steam, the game is currently listed at Rs. 3,499 for Indian players, though regional pricing can fluctuate and it is worth checking your local storefront for the most current figure.
Every digital pre-order across all available platforms includes a free Deluxe Edition upgrade, which adds:

An SSD is required across all tiers. IO Interactive also confirmed that NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 dynamic multi-frame generation and super resolution are supported at launch, with path tracing and DLSS Ray Reconstruction arriving as a post-launch update in Summer 2026. DLSS is not enabled for the Minimum, Recommended, or Enthusiast tiers at launch.
What Is the Game Actually About?
007 First Light tells a completely original Bond story. The game follows a 26-year-old James Bond, already known as a bit of a loose cannon, as he takes on a major mission that ultimately leads him to earning his 00 designation. The story involves a rogue agent, a deep conspiracy, and familiar faces including M, Q, and Moneypenny, alongside original characters. The villain, known as Bawma or The Pirate King, is played by Lenny Kravitz.
The official title sequence features an original song called “First Light”, written and composed by Lana Del Rey and David Arnold.
Gameplay mixes stealth, gunplay, melee combat, and gadget use, drawing comparisons to both the Hitman series and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle in terms of overall feel. The game also features vehicle sections, including an Aston Martin and a motorboat, as well as replayable missions with additional modifiers for extra challenge.
