Slay the Spire 2 launched into Steam Early Access on March 5, 2026 to record-breaking numbers, and players are already asking what comes next. Right now, Mega Crit has not published a formal roadmap, however the studio has been actively patching the game and has shared clear intentions for the Early Access period. Here is everything confirmed so far.

Does Slay the Spire 2 Have an Official Roadmap?

No. As of March 7, 2026, Mega Crit has not published a formal roadmap for Slay the Spire 2’s Early Access development. The game launched without one, and the studio has not announced when one will be shared.

However, this is not unusual. Many Early Access titles release their roadmaps after launch rather than before, once the development team has assessed player feedback and prioritised what to address first. Given that Slay the Spire 2 launched to nearly half a million concurrent players, Mega Crit has had no shortage of feedback to process in the immediate post-launch window.

Mega Crit has a strong track record of community transparency from the original game’s Early Access period, and a roadmap is widely expected to follow once the initial launch period settles down.

What Mega Crit Has Said About Early Access Plans

While no formal roadmap exists, Mega Crit has outlined their intentions directly on the Steam page. Here is what the studio has confirmed is planned for the Early Access period and the eventual 1.0 release:

Planned AdditionStage
More cards, events, environments, and enemiesThroughout Early Access
Balance passes and bug fixesOngoing
New game modesConfirmed for 1.0
Quality-of-life featuresThroughout Early Access
Experimental and exotic design testingThroughout Early Access
Fancier visual effectsConfirmed for 1.0
Additional language supportConfirmed for 1.0
True narrative endingConfirmed for 1.0
Greater hardware compatibilityThroughout Early Access
Console versions (PS5, Xbox, Switch 2)After full 1.0 release

Mega Crit also confirmed that players can submit feedback directly in-game by pressing F2 or through the settings menu, which is a new addition compared to the original game’s Discord-only feedback system.

All Slay the Spire 2 Patch Notes (Full Update History)

Here is the complete update history for Slay the Spire 2 during its Early Access period so far:

PatchRelease Date
Hotfix v0.98.1March 6, 2026
Hotfix v0.98.2March 7, 2026

Hotfix v0.98.1 Patch Notes (March 6, 2026)

Mega Crit released the first hotfix on day one of launch, targeting softlocks and crashes reported by the community.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed a softlock where playing your first run in multiplayer and disconnecting after defeating the Act 1 boss left you unable to start a new run or enter the Timeline screen.
  • Fixed a crash caused by fast card play when a card play is cancelled during targeting.
  • Fixed a crash when displaying untranslated text for languages with complex plural rules.
  • Fixed an intermittent crash with non-English language settings.
  • Fixed a localisation crash in the Japanese Knife Trap translation referencing a non-existent Damage variable.
  • Fixed unsupported Steam languages displaying all in-game text as the letter “W” instead of falling back to English.

Hotfix v0.98.2 Patch Notes (March 7, 2026)

The second hotfix followed the day after launch, addressing more player-reported issues including multiplayer bugs and translation errors.

Writing and Localisation:

  • Updated various translations across the game.
  • Fixed Russian and Turkish formatting errors.
  • Fixed translation errors in Spanish, Italian, Polish, Russian, and Chinese.

General Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed a black screen on launch caused by the Sentry crash reporter mishandling log messages. Players who previously had to delete the Sentry folder to launch the game no longer need to do so.
  • Fixed a softlock caused by the Whispering Earring relic trying to play ally-targeted cards on Osty.
  • Fixed the Doormaker enemy’s music not transitioning correctly when the portal opens.

Multiplayer Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed an issue where some players were unable to unlock Epochs in the Timeline or start new runs after completing a multiplayer run.
  • Fixed two active Beacon of Hope powers infinitely triggering each other.
  • Fixed a state divergence related to Pael’s Wing relic timing.

What to Expect from Future Updates

Mega Crit has committed to iterating throughout the Early Access period based on community feedback, bug reports, and anonymised in-game metrics. Based on both the original game’s development cycle and the studio’s current public statements, here is what is reasonable to expect:

  • Frequent hotfixes in the short term, addressing bugs and crashes reported by the large Early Access player base.
  • Larger content updates over the coming months, likely adding new cards, events, and enemies.
  • Acts 2b and 3b (the alternate variants for Acts 2 and 3) are confirmed as coming during Early Access, though exact dates have not been announced.
  • The Watcher character, who was absent from the launch build despite being a returning character from the original game, is confirmed to arrive during Early Access.
  • A formal roadmap is expected to be published once the immediate post-launch period has stabilised, based on Mega Crit’s communication style during the original game’s development.

How Long Will Early Access Last?

Mega Crit has estimated Early Access will run for one to two years. The original Slay the Spire spent approximately one and a half years in Early Access before its full 1.0 release, so a similar timeline here is a reasonable expectation. The studio has also confirmed that the price will increase when the game exits Early Access, so buying now via Steam at $24.99 locks in the lower rate.

How to Submit Feedback to Mega Crit

Players can contribute directly to the game’s development through two methods:

  • In-game feedback tool: Press F2 at any point during play, or access it through the settings menu.
  • Discord: Mega Crit monitors the official Discord server and responds to community questions and reports there.

This in-game tool is a significant upgrade from the original game, where all feedback was routed through Discord alone. The direct reporting system means Mega Crit can track issues more efficiently and prioritise fixes based on real-time player data throughout Early Access.
