If you have been holding onto hope that Max and Chloe would get one final chapter together, Life Is Strange: Reunion is exactly what you have been waiting for. Developer Deck Nine has confirmed that the game serves as the final chapter in Max Caulfield‘s story, and it brings Chloe Price back into the picture regardless of how your original Life Is Strange save ended. With a release date locked in and hands-on previews now out in the world, here is everything confirmed about Life Is Strange: Reunion ahead of its launch.

Life Is Strange: Reunion Release Date

Life Is Strange: Reunion launches on March 26, 2026. The date applies to all platforms the game is releasing on.

Which Platforms Is Life Is Strange: Reunion On?

Life Is Strange: Reunion releases on the following platforms:

  • Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S
  • Xbox on PC

The developer is Deck Nine Games, and the publisher is Square Enix.

You can pre-order Life Is Strange: Reunion directly through the Xbox Store or PlayStation Store depending on your platform.

What Is Life Is Strange: Reunion About?

Life Is Strange: Reunion picks up directly after the events of Life Is Strange: Double Exposure. Max Caulfield is now working as a photography teacher at Caledon University. After a vision shows her the campus burning down in three days, she stays behind to investigate rather than leaving for the weekend. That decision sets the entire story in motion.

Chloe Price returns to Caledon at the same point, haunted by nightmares and what Deck Nine describes as impossible memories. The two are reunited, and together they have to figure out who plans to set the university on fire and why, all while dealing with the weight of everything that passed between them.

Deck Nine has described Life Is Strange: Reunion as the definitive finale to Max and Chloe‘s story, the one that gives both characters the ending they have been building toward across multiple games.

Does Your Save From the Original Life Is Strange Carry Over?

Yes, and this is one of the most significant design choices in Life Is Strange: Reunion. Your choices from the original Life Is Strange, specifically the fate of Arcadia Bay and the nature of Max and Chloe‘s relationship, shape how the reunion between the two characters plays out. The most consequential scene in the preview builds out differently depending on whether Chloe died in your original playthrough or survived, and whether the two had a romantic relationship.

Chloe exists in a complicated in-between state in this game, one shaped by the merged memories of both possible realities. Your Max, however, remembers the ending you chose a decade ago and has been carrying the weight of that decision ever since. Deck Nine has been deliberate about making that emotional history feel present rather than glossed over.

Can You Play as Both Max and Chloe?

Yes. Life Is Strange: Reunion lets you play as both Max and Chloe, alternating between them across different scenes as the story progresses. Each character plays differently and brings their own gameplay mechanics to the experience.

When Max and Chloe reunite, the game shifts into something more unusual. Rather than controlling just one of them, you make dialogue choices for both characters in real time as their conversation unfolds. An on-screen icon always makes it clear whose response you are currently choosing, and the exchange shifts back and forth between the two as the discussion heats up. That scene alone is one of the more emotionally ambitious moments in the series so far.

What Gameplay Mechanics Does Each Character Have?

Max’s Rewind Ability

Max‘s signature Rewind power returns in full. You use it to undo decisions, revisit conversations with new information, and solve puzzles that require you to think across time. The preview included a timed sequence where Max had to locate and defuse multiple explosive charges in a basement before the building was demolished. Players had to find the right route between the detonators, locate the tools needed to disarm them, and avoid falling hazards, all against a countdown. It was one of the more physically demanding puzzle sequences the series has attempted.

Chloe’s Backtalk

Chloe returns without any supernatural abilities, relying instead on quick thinking and sharp conversation. Her Backtalk mechanic, first introduced in Life Is Strange: Before the Storm, makes a return in Reunion. When Chloe faces a confrontation, a timed dialogue overlay appears and you choose responses to outmanoeuvre whoever is pressing her. Success depends on how closely you paid attention to the environment and earlier conversations. Getting caught by campus security at the Snapping Turtle bar is one of the moments where Backtalk comes into play in the preview, and the outcome of that encounter carries forward into later scenes.

What Does the Preview Reveal About the Story?

Based on hands-on previews from the first half of the game, here is what is confirmed about the story so far:

Amanda‘s open-mic night at the Snapping Turtle bar opens the demo. Max attends to gather information and ends up using her Rewind power to stop a heckler from derailing her friend’s stand-up routine. The bar is cosy and packed with familiar faces, and conversations there lead to a discovery about a planned university expansion.

Chloe‘s arrival on campus is awkward and immediately complicated. She gets blocked from entering the Snapping Turtle before even making it through the door, has an unexpected conversation with the bartender, and eventually tracks down Max‘s location by piecing together information from people around her.

The abandoned building sequence brings Max and a journalism student named Loretta into a basement together, where they discover construction workers preparing to demolish the structure. Max uses Rewind to locate and disarm explosive charges before the building comes down. Chloe arrives at the end of the sequence, and the two reunite.

The morning after provides the game’s most emotionally charged preview section, a conversation between Max and Chloe at Max‘s house on campus where the choices from the original game begin to assert themselves in tangible, personal ways.

The character Safi, who featured in Double Exposure, appears to be connected to Chloe‘s visions and the broader mystery of the fire. Her role in Reunion is still being revealed, but she appears to be a thread that connects the events of both games.

What Other Characters Return?

Several characters from Life Is Strange: Double Exposure return in Life Is Strange: Reunion. Moses, a graduate student, is one of the people Max sees in her vision of the campus fire, which gives her motivation to stay. Dr. Yasmin Fayyad and her daughter Safi also appear. Amanda, Max‘s friend, plays a significant role in the opening section of the game. Lucas Colmenero, the disgraced university professor from Double Exposure, also makes an appearance.

What Does the Game Look, Sound, and Feel Like?

Previews from multiple outlets note that Life Is Strange: Reunion is a visual step up from previous entries in the series. Facial expressions and character performances look notably more refined, and the locations feel full of environmental detail and personality. The Snapping Turtle bar in particular comes across as warm and lived-in.

The music, always a defining element of the Life Is Strange series, continues that tradition in Reunion. A mix of original score and licensed tracks runs through the preview, with at least one needle drop that reviewers singled out as a standout moment. The overall atmosphere of the game carries a noticeably darker and more melancholic tone than earlier entries, which feels appropriate for a story that is consciously wrapping up a ten-year journey.

The transition between playing as Max and playing as Chloe works smoothly, and the scene where you control both simultaneously adds something genuinely new to the series’ dialogue system without overcomplicating it.

Life Is Strange: Reunion carries the weight of a decade of storytelling, and everything confirmed so far suggests Deck Nine understands the responsibility that comes with that. Whether you sacrificed Arcadia Bay all those years ago or chose to save Chloe at any cost, the game meets you at that decision and builds forward from it rather than erasing it. March 26 is not far off, and for fans who have spent years wondering how Max and Chloe’s story could possibly find a satisfying ending, it looks like the wait is almost over.
