How to Get Stone on Skyblock in Terraria

Starting a Skyblock world in Terraria changes how you think about basic resources. Stone, which usually feels endless in a normal world, suddenly becomes one of the first real obstacles. You cannot mine it near spawn, and enemies above ground do not drop it. Still, stone exists in Skyblock, and you can obtain it reliably once you understand how the world handles enemy drops and depth.

This guide explains how to get stone on Skyblock in Terraria 1.4.5.

Why Stone Feels Unavailable at First

In Skyblock, your starting island lacks natural stone blocks. Early slimes near spawn do not drop stone, which leads many players to assume something is broken or missing.

Stone does not come from surface enemies in this seed. Instead, Terraria ties certain drops to depth and biome, even when the world consists mostly of empty space.

The Reliable Way to Get Stone in Skyblock

The most consistent way to obtain stone is through stone slimes in the cavern layer.

You reach this layer by traveling downward using lots of rope. Once the background shifts from brown to gray, you have entered the cavern layer. At this depth, enemy loot tables change.

Slimes that spawn here can contain stone blocks inside them. When you defeat these slimes, they drop stone directly, often in large quantities.

You can easily get 20 to 25 stone per stone slime, making this method efficient once you set it up.

How to Make Stone Slimes Spawn

After reaching the cavern layer, you need to encourage enemy spawns.

Build a wide, flat platform using any blocks you already own. This platform gives enemies space to spawn. Walk back and forth across it while fighting enemies for a few minutes.

Eventually, you will encounter slimes with visible stone blocks inside their bodies. These are stone slimes. Defeat them to collect stone.

This method works even though the surrounding space appears empty. Depth alone controls the drop behavior.

Alternative Stone Method Using Shimmer

Some players have confirmed a second method that works if you can access Shimmer.

In this process:

  • You shimmer copper ore to convert it into clay
  • You shimmer clay again to convert it into stone

In some Skyblock worlds, Shimmer appears to the left of the spawn island and can be reached by building a sky bridge. This method requires more setup but provides another way to generate stone if cavern access feels difficult.

What Stone Unlocks Next?

With stone available, you can craft a furnace. That single step unlocks smelting, metal tools, and armor progression. For most Skyblock runs, stone slimes mark the true beginning of early game expansion.
