Deceive the Deceiver brings a small but sharp slice of Zone treachery into the Garbage region. The mission unfolds with the same tension that colors every corner of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, yet the steps remain simple once you understand the intention behind them.
Where the Deceive the Deceiver Mission Begins
Travel southeast in the Garbage, near the Detention Center. A shootout breaks loose in a walled yard. Clear the soldiers around the compound, and a voice from the garage pulls you in. Inside, crouched behind a barricade and a faded blue-and-white bus, you find Akopyan.
He asks for a bandage. You can help or decline; the story moves forward either way. What matters is his warning. A scammer named Babay lured him into a job, knocked him out, stole his goods, and repeated the trick on others. Akopyan wants the cycle to end and asks you to draw Babay out of his safe corner in the Slag Heap.
Before you leave, search the bodies from the shootout. One carries Sashko Cheery’s Spitter. This weapon becomes your proof for the ruse and your only real leverage when confronting Babay.
How to Lure Babay Out
Head northwest to the Slag Heap. Babay kills conversation with a flat stare while tapping at his PDA, but the mission turns once you show him the Spitter. The sight of it convinces him that Akopyan wants payback and that you stand in the middle. Panic pushes him into motion. He offers you payment if you accompany him to his stash at the edge of the Slag Heap, near a small cluster of red shipping containers.
The moment you show him the Spitter, the quest unlocks its true shape. You start playing both sides, and neither man understands the full picture.
Escorting Babay and Choosing His Fate
Follow Babay as he leaves the base. He moves with hurried steps and nervous glances. Stay close, or he stops and the mission drags. Once he reaches the containers, he unlocks the stash, collects his goods, and hands you a payout. At this point, you choose how the story ends.
Option One: Kill Babay Immediately
You earn Akopyan’s reward once you return to him.
Option Two: Let Him Finish Talking
He leads you farther to meet his two allies. After thanking you, he transfers his payment. When the money lands, you gain the opening to deal with Babay and his crew. This route gives you:
• Babay’s reward
• His pristine AKM-74S
• Akopyan’s payment once you return
This approach yields the highest reward.
Returning to Akopyan
Travel back to the Slag Heap. Akopyan arrives shortly after Babay’s death. Speak with him to close the mission and receive your second payment. With both men settled, the quest ends cleanly, leaving you with a tidy profit and a small reminder that the Zone rarely rewards trust without verification.
Tips to Keep the Quest Stable
Players report minor bugs when juggling several side missions at once. To avoid issues:
• Keep Deceive the Deceiver active on its own
• Don’t leave Akopyan waiting for long
• Hold onto the Spitter until the quest is finished
• Stay close to Babay during the escort
