Slay the Spire 2 hides some genuinely rewarding secrets across its acts, and the Hidden Treasure questline is one of the most satisfying to complete. It starts with a single choice in Act 1 and pays out 600 gold if you carry it through to Act 2. Here is everything you need to know to find it and cash in.
What Is the Hidden Treasure in Slay the Spire 2?
The Hidden Treasure is a two-part event chain that spans Act 1 and Act 2. It begins with a random event in Act 1 that gives you the option to pick up a Treasure Map. If you choose to take it, the map sits in your deck as an Unplayable card called the Spoils Map until you reach Act 2, where it leads you to a marked treasure node worth 600 gold.

The event works across both forms of Act 1, so it does not matter whether your run takes you through the Overgrowth or the Underdocks.
Step 1: Find the Event in Act 1
The Hidden Treasure chain starts entirely at random. You need to come across a specific random event node in Act 1 called “The Legend Was True.” The event presents you with an old cave containing a scroll on a pedestal, and it gives you a choice between a potion or the Treasure Map.
To give yourself the best chance of finding it, keep the following in mind:
- Target event nodes deliberately as you plan your route through the Act 1 map. Event nodes are your only way to trigger this questline.
- Do not rush through events. It is easy to mash through them quickly, so slow down and read each one as it appears.
- Make sure your deck and health are in reasonable shape before hunting for event nodes. Random event nodes in Act 1 can also contain enemies, so arriving underprepared can cost you more than the treasure is worth.
When you find the event, select “Nab the Map” to add the Spoils Map to your deck and start the questline.
Step 2: Carry the Spoils Map Through Act 1
Once you pick up the Spoils Map, it sits in your deck as a completely Unplayable card until Act 2. It contributes nothing to your runs and counts as a dead draw whenever it appears in your hand.
The key point here is straightforward: survive Act 1 and beat the boss. The Spoils Map only pays out once you cross into Act 2, so your priority is simply to keep your run alive long enough to get there. Do not let the dead draw frustrate you. The 600 gold reward more than justifies the inconvenience.
Step 3: Find the Treasure Node in Act 2
Once you defeat the Act 1 boss and arrive in Act 2, the map activates. You will notice a red X marked on the Act 2 map, which indicates exactly where the treasure node sits.

Here is what to expect:
- Every route in Act 2 collapses toward the treasure node, so you will naturally pass through it regardless of the path you take.
- The treasure node delivers all the standard rewards you would expect from that node type, plus the 600 gold payout on top.
- Act 2 routes appear to have an increased number of random event nodes, which makes pathing feel slightly more varied on runs where you are carrying the map.
What to Do With 600 Gold
Six hundred gold is a significant sum, and spending it wisely makes a real difference to your run. The most important thing to do after collecting the treasure is visit a shop as soon as possible.
Several enemies in Act 2 carry abilities that let them steal gold as a bonus effect, and losing your 600 gold payout to an enemy after carrying the Spoils Map all the way through Act 1 would be a painful outcome. Prioritise a shop node on your path out of the treasure area and convert that gold into cards, relics, or card removals before it is at risk.
Known Bug Warning
If you are playing Slay the Spire 2 in its current Early Access state, be aware of a known issue affecting the Spoils Map. Several players have reported that saving and quitting while carrying the Spoils Map can cause the Act 2 map to reset entirely. When this happens, the map changes, the treasure node disappears, and affected players find themselves unable to select a new path, effectively softlocking the run and forcing them to forfeit.
Until this is patched, the safest approach is to avoid saving and quitting mid-run while the Spoils Map is in your deck. If you do get softlocked, players have reported that saving, quitting, and rejoining can sometimes resolve the issue, though this does not work in every case.
