Concerns are growing among fans of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) after industry insider Tom Henderson suggested the long-awaited title could face another delay, potentially moving its release from May 26, 2026 to October 2026.
Rockstar Games originally targeted a Fall 2025 launch for GTA 6 before announcing a delay earlier this year, pushing the release into May 2026. At the time, parent company Take-Two Interactive and CEO Strauss Zelnick reassured fans that the studio was confident in its new schedule.
Insider Speculation Raises Concerns
Speaking on a recent episode of Insider Gaming Weekly, Henderson stated:
“I don’t think that it is going to release in May. All the rumblings suggest otherwise… I think we’re looking at October.”
Henderson, known for reliable reports on major titles such as Call of Duty and Battlefield, emphasized that his claim is based on speculation rather than verified leaks. He further suggested that Rockstar may aim for October to maximize holiday sales and align the launch closer to the expected arrival of next-generation consoles in 2027, potentially including the PlayStation 6.
Despite the uncertainty, fans remain divided. Some players expressed disappointment at the prospect of waiting longer, while others argued that Rockstar’s pursuit of perfection justifies the delays.
What We Know So Far
So far, Rockstar has released two cinematic trailers for GTA 6, but no official gameplay footage. The absence of gameplay has fueled speculation that development may be behind schedule, though others believe the studio still has enough time to showcase its progress before launch.
Competing reports also contradict Henderson’s claims. YouTuber Luke Stephens recently cited a source “high up in publishing” who suggested that Rockstar remains confident in its May 2026 timeline.
The Bigger Picture
It has been 12 years since the release of GTA V, and anticipation for the next entry is at an all-time high. Rockstar has a history of delaying projects to meet its high standards, but it also has a track record of sticking to firm release dates once announced.
For now, Rockstar has not commented on the rumors of a second delay. With eight months to go until GTA 6’s scheduled release, fans will be watching closely for official updates.
