When you step into the streets of Washington, D.C. in The Division 2, teamwork shapes the experience. Missions flow better with coordination, and endgame activities often expect a squad. That makes one question especially important before you invite friends. Does The Division 2 have crossplay?
The answer depends on where and how you play. Here is a clear breakdown so you can plan your sessions without confusion.
Division 2 Crossplay
The Division 2 does not support full crossplay across all platforms.
You cannot play together if one of you uses PlayStation and another uses Xbox. Console players also cannot join PC players. Crossplay exists only within the PC ecosystem.
What Crossplay Means in The Division 2
Ubisoft enables crossplay between PC storefronts. If you play on PC through Steam, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Connect, or Amazon Luna, you can matchmake and group up with other PC players regardless of where they bought the game.
This setup works automatically and stays enabled by default. From a technical standpoint, all these versions connect to the same PC multiplayer environment.
While Ubisoft officially calls this crossplay, it helps to think of it as shared PC matchmaking rather than platform-wide crossplay.
Console Crossplay Is Not Supported
If you play on PlayStation or Xbox, the rules stay strict. PlayStation players can only play with other PlayStation users. Xbox players can only join Xbox sessions. The two console families do not connect with each other.
This limitation often surprises new players, especially since crossplay has become more common in modern live-service games.
Cross-Generation Play on Consoles
Although console crossplay is not available, cross-generation play usually works within the same console family. PlayStation 4 players can typically play with PlayStation 5 users. Xbox One players can join Xbox Series X or S sessions.
This helps if your group upgraded hardware at different times, but it does not solve the gap between PlayStation and Xbox communities.
Cross-Progression Explained
The Division 2 supports cross-progression on PC platforms only. If you log in using the same Ubisoft account, your progress carries over between Steam, Epic, Ubisoft Connect, and Luna.
Cross-progression does not extend to consoles. Progress made on PlayStation or Xbox stays tied to that platform and does not transfer elsewhere.
Why Full Crossplay Never Arrived
Community discussions and developer comments over the years suggest that adding full crossplay would require a major overhaul of matchmaking and backend systems. With the game already live and supported long-term, Ubisoft chose to focus resources elsewhere.
While other Ubisoft titles added crossplay later in their lifespan, The Division 2 never received that update.
Should You Expect Crossplay in the Future?
As of now, Ubisoft has not announced plans to add console crossplay to The Division 2. Given the game’s age and the studio’s focus on future projects, a major multiplayer shift appears unlikely.
If crossplay matters deeply to you, it may arrive with a future installment rather than through an update to this one.
