A High-Profile Homicide Investigation With No Easy Answers:

The arrest of a close friend of R&B singer D4vd has added a dramatic new chapter to one of the most disturbing and closely watched death investigations in recent memory. At the center of the case is Celeste Rivas Hernandez, a 14-year-old girl from Lake Elsinore, California, whose remains were discovered in September 2025 inside a Tesla linked to the chart-topping artist.

While no criminal charges have yet been filed, law enforcement officials have confirmed that the case is being treated as an active homicide investigation, with a Los Angeles County grand jury continuing to hear evidence into early 2026. The January 22 arrest of Neo Langston, a known associate of D4vd, has intensified public scrutiny and renewed questions about accountability, celebrity influence, and the handling of missing and runaway youth cases.

As investigators remain tight-lipped, the slow release of verified details has painted a troubling picture—one involving alleged deception, unanswered forensic questions, and a timeline that spans more than a year.

In This Post:

Who Was Celeste Rivas Hernandez?

Celeste Rivas Hernandez was born on September 7, 2010, to parents who had immigrated from El Salvador and settled in Lake Elsinore, California. According to family members and law enforcement records, Celeste struggled at home and was reported missing multiple times throughout 2024.

Authorities described her as a runaway teen, a classification that would later complicate early efforts to locate her. Her family last had confirmed contact with her in May 2024, after she had briefly been found in Hollywood and returned home—only to leave again weeks later.

Celeste’s mother told investigators that her daughter had spoken about a boyfriend named “David,” whom she had never met in person. The name would later take on devastating significance.

Early Clues: A Relationship That Raised Red Flags

As investigators retraced Celeste’s movements, evidence emerged suggesting she had met David Anthony Burke, professionally known as D4vd, online. Burke, born in 2004, had risen rapidly to international fame with viral hits like “Romantic Homicide” and “Here With Me.” By 2024, he was living in Los Angeles and preparing for a major global tour.

According to sources familiar with the investigation, Celeste had been residing in a rental property in Hollywood associated with D4vd. Photos later recovered reportedly showed the two together, and witnesses stated that Celeste attended age-restricted events using multiple fake IDs.

Friends of D4vd allegedly believed Celeste was 19 years old and a USC student, unaware she was a minor. However, investigators are examining whether others may have known—or should have known—her real age.

A Timeline That Slowly Turns Dark

The last confirmed sightings of Celeste alive place her in September 2024 and January 2, 2025, based on surveillance footage and digital evidence. Forensic experts estimate her time of death occurred sometime between March and May 2025.

That window has become a focal point of the investigation, particularly due to a trip D4vd reportedly took to Santa Barbara County during that same period.

By late July 2025, a Tesla registered to D4vd was observed parked on Bluebird Avenue in the Hollywood Hills. Neighbors later told authorities the vehicle appeared to be moved sporadically over the next three months before being left unattended.

On September 3, 2025, after receiving a parking ticket and exceeding the city’s 72-hour limit, the Tesla was impounded.

Five days later, everything changed.

Discovery at the Tow Yard

On September 8, 2025, employees at a Los Angeles tow yard reported a strong, foul odor coming from the impounded Tesla. Inside the vehicle’s front trunk (frunk), authorities discovered human remains wrapped in a black bag.

The discovery occurred one day after what would have been Celeste’s 15th birthday.

Due to the advanced state of decomposition, identification took over a week. On September 16, forensic experts confirmed the remains belonged to Celeste Rivas Hernandez.

Forensic Findings—and Lingering Uncertainty

The remains were described as severely decomposed and partially dismembered, though law enforcement later clarified that Celeste had not been decapitated, correcting early misinformation.

Some early media reports speculated that the body showed signs of freezing or cryopreservation, potentially involving freeze-thaw cycles that could obscure time and cause of death. These claims gained traction after reports surfaced about a “burn cage” incinerator seized during a search of D4vd’s rental home.

However, in late November 2025, the LAPD publicly debunked claims that the body was frozen, stating unequivocally that Celeste’s remains were not frozen when discovered. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, led by Dr. Odey Ukpo, has listed the cause and manner of death as pending, with toxicology results unreleased.

The medical examiner’s file remains sealed by court order under case number 2025-14252, a move that Dr. Ukpo later criticized as rare and unlikely to prevent speculation.

The Investigation Expands

The LAPD Robbery-Homicide Division has stated from the outset that the case likely involves multiple individuals, particularly regarding the disposal and concealment of the body.

On September 17, 2025, investigators executed a search warrant at D4vd’s Hollywood rental property, seizing electronic devices, a computer, and multiple bags of evidence. Two days later, D4vd canceled his planned “Withered” world tour, and his record label quietly froze his professional activities.

By November 24, 2025, LAPD officials publicly classified the case as an “investigation into murder,” stating, “Accountability is coming. No one is off-limits.”

The Grand Jury and Mounting Pressure

A Los Angeles County grand jury convened in mid-November 2025, led by prosecutors including Deputy District Attorney Beth Silverman. Multiple witnesses have testified, including Robert Morgenroth, a senior label executive and head of D4vd’s touring company.

Court observers later noted a reference to an “uncooperative” witness during a December 10 hallway conversation involving prosecutors and defense attorneys—an exchange that would take on new relevance weeks later.

Arrest of Neo Langston: A Turning Point?

On January 22, 2026, Neo Langston, a 23-year-old social media streamer known online as NeoTheAsian and a close friend of D4vd, was arrested in Helena, Montana.

The arrest was carried out on an out-of-state LAPD warrant for failure to appear before the grand jury. Langston was booked into the Lewis and Clark County Detention Center without bond before being transferred to LAPD custody.

Authorities have not confirmed whether Langston was the previously referenced uncooperative witness, but legal observers note the timing strongly suggests a connection. Langston faces no charges related directly to Celeste’s death, and his arrest pertains solely to the witness warrant.

As of January 25, 2026, D4vd has not been arrested, charged, or indicted. He is, however, officially considered a suspect by law enforcement sources and hired prominent criminal defense attorney Blair Berk in October 2025.

Investigators have emphasized that while the case is moving slowly, it is far from stalled. Grand jury proceedings are expected to continue through February 2026, and sources close to the case describe D4vd as “likely” to face charges, though no indictment has yet been returned.

Public Reaction and Broader Implications

The case has sparked intense discussion across social media platforms, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), where posts from outlets like TMZ and Inquirer.net have fueled debate. Some users express frustration over the lack of charges months after the discovery, while others urge caution until prosecutors complete their work.

Beyond the celebrity angle, the case has reignited conversations about runaway teens, online relationships, and how easily minors can disappear in plain sight.

An Investigation Still Unfolding

More than four months after Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s remains were found, the most critical questions remain unanswered: How did she die, who was responsible, and who helped conceal it?

With a grand jury still convened, sealed forensic files, and witnesses being compelled to testify, the case continues to evolve. The arrest of Neo Langston underscores the increasing pressure on those connected to the investigation—and signals that prosecutors are tightening their focus.

For now, Celeste’s family waits, the public watches, and investigators insist that accountability, however delayed, is coming.
