Rumor: Marvel’s Venom PS5 Game Puts Eddie Brock in the Spotlight, Carnage as Villain

New reports suggest that Insomniac Games’ long-rumored Venom video game is still in active development and could feature Eddie Brock as the central protagonist, with Carnage set to serve as the main antagonist.

According to gaming outlet MP1st, the project, first uncovered during Insomniac’s 2023 cyberattack, remains underway despite speculation of cancellation. While the game was initially expected to launch in 2025, insiders now suggest a release window closer to 2027, following the studio’s highly anticipated Wolverine title.

Eddie Brock Takes the Lead

The leak claims players will control Eddie Brock, the original and most iconic host of the Venom symbiote in Marvel Comics. This would mark Brock’s first proper appearance in Insomniac’s Spider-Man universe, expanding the narrative beyond Peter Parker and Miles Morales. Early reports also suggest Brock’s design will lean heavily on his comic book appearance, distinguishing him from live-action portrayals by Tom Hardy and Topher Grace.

Carnage and Anti-Venom Enter the Story

Perhaps the most striking detail involves the game’s villain. Cletus Kasady, better known as Carnage, is expected to emerge as the primary foe, building on the brief tease from a side quest in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The inclusion of Carnage could provide a darker and more violent tone compared to previous Insomniac Spider-Man entries.

The game will also reportedly feature Anti-Venom, though this version is said to resemble its monstrous comic iteration rather than a Spider-Man suit variant. Instead of Peter Parker, Brock himself may wield and control Anti-Venom, possibly offering players branching moral choices between lethal aggression and reluctant heroism.

A Spin-Off in the Insomniac Universe

The standalone Venom title is rumored to function as a bridge between Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3, similar in scale to Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Actor Tony Todd, who voiced Venom in Spider-Man 2, previously revealed that much of his recorded dialogue was unused, further fueling speculation about Brock’s starring role.

Looking Ahead

If the rumors hold true, Marvel’s Venom could not only expand Insomniac’s Spider-Man universe but also set up major story beats for Spider-Man 3. With fans eager to see Carnage fully realized and Eddie Brock introduced, the spin-off stands to be one of the most highly anticipated PlayStation exclusives of the decade.

For now, Sony and Insomniac Games have yet to confirm the game’s existence or release schedule. Until then, the prospect of a dedicated Venom game remains one of the most talked-about rumors in the Marvel gaming community.
