Strongboxes in Crimson Desert are some of the most rewarding puzzles in the game, and the one inside Arboria Castle is no exception. The castle sits in a dangerous area and takes some effort to reach, but the strongbox inside is worth every step. If you are stuck on the cylinder puzzle or not sure where to find it, this guide covers the exact solution, the location, the reward, and what to do if something goes wrong.
Arboria Castle Strongbox Location
Arboria Castle sits in the Hills of No Return, north of Hernand, which you reach by crossing the Hook Rapids. The name of those hills is well-earned, so come prepared for both hazards and combat.

A few things to watch for on the way:
- Fallen trees block the main road leading to the castle, so expect to find alternate routes through the area.
- Yellow mushrooms fill the surrounding woods. Getting too close causes them to explode and deal damage, so watch your step throughout the approach.
- Hostile creatures, including spiders, are active inside and around the castle. Bring combat-ready gear rather than treating this as a purely exploratory stop.
The castle is also tied to the Queen’s Nest and Restarting the Elixir Factory questlines for House Celeste, which involve defeating the Queen Spider boss and repairing an elixir factory inside the building. The strongbox is independent of those quests, but knowing the area helps you plan your visit.
Once you reach the castle, head to the drawbridge as your starting point. From there, go right and down a set of stairs, then head left and forward into a room. From that room, go left and up another set of stairs to find the strongbox. It sits in the castle basement, near the centre, surrounded by spider webs.
Note: You do not need a mask to open this strongbox. Because Arboria Castle is abandoned, picking up the reward does not register as theft and you will not receive a crime penalty.
Arboria Castle Strongbox Puzzle Solution

The strongbox uses a five-cylinder tumbler mechanism. Each cylinder has a rotating board beneath it that controls the cylinder’s height. The goal is to align each cylinder so that the silver top sits above the wooden panel line and the golden bottom sits below it, matching the painted background on the box itself. That painted image is your alignment reference throughout the puzzle.
Start with all cylinders at the top position, then apply the following downward rotations from left to right:
| Cylinder | Downward Rotations |
| 1st (leftmost) | 3 |
| 2nd | 4 |
| 3rd | 5 |
| 4th | 4 |
| 5th (rightmost) | 2 |
One full rotation is complete when Kliff’s thumb lifts back to the top of the wheel. Count full rotations only, as stopping mid-scroll will leave the cylinder at the wrong height.
Once all five cylinders are set, press the button on the right side first to test the alignment, then turn the knob to unlock and open the strongbox.
What Is the Arboria Castle Strongbox Reward?

Opening the Arboria Castle strongbox gives you an Equipment Manual, a rare resource for crafting high-tier gear. Some pages of the manual are also scattered elsewhere in the castle as part of the Elixir Factory quest, making some of its content familiar if you have already explored the area, but the manual itself remains a valuable crafting progression item.
Troubleshooting: What to Do If the Puzzle Goes Wrong

If you made an incorrect input and the cylinders are out of position, you do not need to restart anything. Each rotating board adjusts independently at any time:
- If a cylinder sits too high, rotate its board downward to lower it.
- If a cylinder sits too low, rotate its board upward to raise it.
- Press the right-side button to test alignment before turning the knob. This confirms whether the cylinders are correctly positioned before you commit to unlocking.
The correct final arrangement from left to right is: 3 down, 4 down, 5 down, 4 down, 2 down, then press and turn the knob.
