Terraria Calamity Progression Guide

Published on

in

A Terraria player base built with a split theme of Crimson and Corruption biomes, featuring custom furniture and themed lighting from the Calamity Mod.

The Calamity Mod reshapes Terraria into a longer, denser journey filled with layered systems, reordered boss paths, and new mechanics that reward planning. This progression guide walks you through Calamityโ€™s intended flow from the opening moments to the true endgame, using only established mod mechanics and confirmed progression points.

How Calamity Changes Progression

Calamity expands Terrariaโ€™s structure rather than replacing it. You still move from Pre Hardmode to Hardmode and beyond, but the mod adds new classes, biomes, materials, and bosses at nearly every stage.

A key addition is the Rogue class, which introduces stealth based damage and interacts heavily with Rage and Adrenaline systems. Difficulty modes such as Revengeance and Death Mode further alter boss behavior and progression pacing.

Several bosses can be fought out of order, but the guide below follows the most stable and commonly recommended path.

Pre Hardmode Progression

Early Preparation and Exploration

You begin with a Starter Bag that provides basic weapons for every class, early potions, and exploration tools. Early on, you should focus on gathering Wulfrum Metal Scraps and Energy Cores to craft your first Calamity gear.

World exploration matters more than ever. Bio center Labs spawn across many biomes and contain Schematics, Dubious Plating, and Mysterious Circuitry. You should secure Power Cell Factories and Charging Stations early to support future crafting and Codebreaker progression.

Space also becomes relevant through planetoids that offer ores, life crystals, biome loot, and shrines with unique accessories or mounts.

Early Boss Path

You can start with King Slime, then move into Calamityโ€™s first custom boss by crafting the Desert Medallion and fighting the Desert Scourge. This unlocks Sea Remains and access to more Sunken Sea content.

After defeating the Eye of Cthulhu, the Acid Rain event becomes available in the Sulphurous Sea. Enemies here drop Sulphuric Scales for early armor and weapons.

Crabulon becomes available through Glowing Mushroom biomes and offers early progression items, including Rage related bonuses in Revengeance Mode.

Defeating Eater of Worlds or Brain of Cthulhu unlocks The Hive Mind or The Perforators, which then allow Aerialite Ore to generate on Floating Islands.

Late Pre Hardmode Goals

Optional bosses like Queen Bee and Deerclops provide useful gear but are not mandatory.

Defeating Skeletron unlocks the Bandit NPC and allows deeper Codebreaker progress. You should now explore the upper layers of the Abyss, where Ancient Treasure Chests become accessible.

The Slime God represents the final major Pre Hardmode challenge. Its drops and the Statigel set prepare you for the Wall of Flesh.

The Pre Hardmode phase ends with defeating the Wall of Flesh, which unlocks Hardmode systems and drops class specific emblems.

Hardmode Progression

Early Hardmode Setup

Hardmode ore progression depends on whether the early Hardmode rework setting is enabled. Life Fruits begin spawning immediately, and new biomes such as the Astral Infection appear.

The Brimstone Crag becomes a major exploration zone, and elemental materials like Essences of Sunlight, Havoc, and Eleum unlock new crafting paths.

Mechanical Boss Phase

You can fight Queen Slime and Cryogen early. Cryogen unlocks Cryonic Ore and spawns the Archmage NPC.

After defeating mechanical bosses, Calamity adjusts ore availability and crafting access. You should delay opening mechanical boss treasure bags until all three are defeated to maximize efficiency.

Once all mechanical bosses fall, you can craft the Blood Orange for permanent health and challenge Calamitas Clone, which gates future progression.

Plantera follows next and unlocks Perennial Ore and post Plantera content.

Post Plantera to Moon Lord

After Plantera, the game opens significantly. You gain access to deeper Abyss layers, new bosses like Leviathan and Anahita and Astrum Aureus, and advanced materials such as Life Alloys.

Defeating Golem unlocks Scoria Ore and Hydrothermic gear. Plague related enemies begin spawning, leading to Plaguebringer Goliath.

You can now fight Astrum Deus before taking on the Moon Lord, who unlocks Luminite crafting and post Moon Lord progression.

Post Moon Lord Progression

Moon Lordโ€™s defeat reshapes the world again. New planetoids generate, Profaned enemies spawn, and Phantom Spirits appear in the Dungeon.

You now challenge Profaned Guardians, Dragonfolly, and Polterghast, while preparing for Providence, the Profaned Goddess. Providence unlocks Uelibloom Ore and late game schematics.

From here, you complete the Rune of Kos bosses and prepare for The Devourer of Gods.

Endgame and Final Challenges

After defeating The Devourer of Gods, you gain access to the Cosmic Anvil, buffed events, and endgame armor like God Slayer and Silva sets.

You then challenge Yharon, Dragon of Rebirth, which unlocks Auric Ore and the final health upgrade.

The final tier includes Supreme Witch, Calamitas and the Exo Mechs, granting access to Shadowspec Bars and true endgame gear.

At this point, you can complete Boss Rush, face the Primordial Wyrm, or pursue long term challenges and collection goals.
